Position Information: DescriptionThe Sociology Department at the University of North Dakota seeks a non-tenure-track Teaching Assistant Professor contingent on available funding. The successful applicant will have demonstrated experience teaching in-person and online undergraduate sociology courses, both lower- and upper-division, and must hold at least an M.A. or M.S. in Sociology by 08/15/2021. The Sociology Department provides instruction for large segments of the University’s undergraduate students through the Essential Studies program and the successful applicant will contribute to and assess learning objectives for both the Sociology major and minor, and Essential Studies program. Salary is competitive. Established in 1883, the University of North Dakota is the oldest research university in North Dakota. Duties & Responsibilities
The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary for teaching a 5/4 load, with courses including some combination of Soc 110: Introduction to Sociology, Soc 252: Criminology, Soc 253: Delinquency and Juvenile Justice, Soc 301: Basic Sociological Theory, and Soc 326: Sociological Statistics. Courses may be a mix of face-to-face and online offerings. All faculty are expected to contribute to service within the department, college, university, and professional community. UND and the College of Arts & Sciences value diverse perspectives and seek applicants who are committed to helping students from underrepresented backgrounds succeed.Required Competencies- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including evidence of the ability to teach, inspire, and mentor students.
- Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
- Ability to work with and engage diverse students and colleagues within and outside the Department of Sociology. Ability to adapt to current methods of teaching, including online delivery.
- MA/MS or terminal degree in Sociology by 8/15/2021. Successful completion of a criminal history records check.
- Experience teaching undergraduate Sociology courses.
- Experience teaching online courses. Experience with direct assessment of student learning.
