Position Information: Description

The Department of Mathematics at the University of North Dakota seeks a full-time Teaching Assistant Professor whose duties primarily involve teaching asynchronous online mathematics courses. This is a 9-month non-tenure track position, contingent upon the availability of funding. Salary is competitive.

Duties & Responsibilities

The successful applicant will receive a competitive salary for teaching a 4/4 load. All faculty are expected to contribute service within the department, college, university, and community. UND and the College of Arts & Sciences value diverse perspectives and seek applicants who are committed to helping students from underrepresented backgrounds succeed.

  • Teach asynchronous online sections of Precalculus, Calculus I, II, and III, Introduction to Differential Equations, with the possibility of an occasional Intermediate and College Algebra section assignment.
  • Use the Math Department’s online course shell in Blackboard for course delivery to ensure compliance with the university’s expectation of the use of best practices in online education.
  • Use the online homework software packages adopted by the Math Department for each assigned course.
  • Work collaboratively with other instructors in developing common exams, assignments, and activities to achieve uniformity in course delivery across sections.
  • Follow the Math Department’s testing protocol.
  • Work with and take direction from the department’s online course coordinator to satisfy departmental expectations of online delivery.
  • Respond to student emails in a timely manner.
  • Create short videos for course material as appropriate.
  • Conduct online meetings with students if needed.

 

Required Competencies
  •  Competence using the technology needed for successful asynchronous online course delivery, including but not limited to:
    •  Learning management systems
    •  Online homework and testing systems
    •  Video recording software such as Yuja
    •  Remote meeting applications such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams
  •  Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including evidence of the ability to teach, inspire, and mentor students.
  •  Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to work with and engage diverse students and colleagues within and outside the Department of Mathematics.

 

Minimum Requirements
  • Master’s degree in mathematics by August 15, 2021.
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching College Algebra and Precalculus
  • Experience teaching the Calculus sequence and Differential Equations
  • Experience teaching asynchronous online college mathematics courses
  • Experience using online teaching technology such as, but not limited to, learning management systems such as Blackboard, online homework and testing systems, video recording systems such as Yuja, and remote meeting applications such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams

 

Minimum Hiring Salary

$40,000, Full-time, Benefited, Exempt

 

Work Schedule/Start Date

Initial contract extends from August 16, 2021 to May 15, 2022. Summer teaching may available, but is neither guaranteed nor required.
