A research assistant professor position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Bibhuti Mishra to conduct research related to epigenetic basis of myeloid plasticity in pneumonic sepsis and during brain parasitic infection. A primary focus of Mishra Lab is related to understand the immune mechanisms underlying acute and chronic inflammatory disorders with the purpose to identify new therapeutic targets for inflammatory diseases. For our research we extensively use preclinical models of brain helminth infection, salivary gland inflammation/ Sjögren's Syndrome, and pneumonic sepsis.

Duties & Responsibilities

The applicant will assist in the design and conduct of experiments outlined in funded grants as well as to test new hypothesis related to regulation of inflammation in acute and chronic inflammatory diseases such as 1) purifying and characterizing immune suppressive helminth parasite molecules, and test their effect in preclinical disease models; 2) Epigenetic reprogramming of myeloid cell functions and implication in disease models. These experiments will include animal handling, primary cell culture, tissue collection for biochemical analysis, epigenetic analysis, immune assays, cell sorting, immunofluorescence staining. The work will require extensive utilization of both in-vitro and in-vivo models to study these areas. Experience in murine infection models is desirable.

Techniques utilized for the studies will include:

  • Standard molecular biology techniques
  • Confocal microscopy
  • 2-photon microscopy
  • Flow cytometry
  • Tissue culture
  • Advanced epigenetic techniques for genome-wide analysis including ChIP-seq, RNA-Seq, short RNA libraries, and bioinformatics and data analysis
  • HPCL/FPLC
  • Mass spectroscopy analysis
  • Standard microbiological, immunological, and biochemical assays.

The applicant will have a training role of lab technicians, undergraduate and graduate students, as well as other postdoctoral fellows as required.
Data entry, analysis, publication and presentation of research, and ordering chemicals are also required.

Minimum Requirements
  • Ph.D. (3 years or less) in immunology, neuroscience or related field (projected Ph.D. within the next 3 months is also acceptable).
  • Submit a curriculum vitae and the contact information of three references.
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check.

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identify and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in immunology, primary tissue culture, mouse handling.
  • Experience in HPLC/FPLC, Parasite/helminth, epigenetics.
  • Publications in the field of immunology, animal studies, neuroscience or epigenetics as demonstrated in your CV.
  • Knowledge of routine computational skills used for data analysis and presentations, including but not limited to Microsoft Office, image analysis software, Flowjo, SigmaPlot, GraphPad, etc.
