Responsibilities

• Responsible for carrying out engineering and research and development tasks associated with various power systems, power electronic systems, mechanical and thermal systems, including cryogenic systems. Work involves engineering design and component development.
• Responsible for hands-on engineering tasks and requires the ability to adapt to the novel methods of a dynamic testing facility.
• Responsible for working with a team to develop power systems for internal and external use.
• Responsible for working within an industrial medium voltage and medium power environment.
• Responsible for correctly specifying and ordering materials and supplies to support projects.
• Often interacts with other FSU agencies and external agencies, both industrial and governmental, on sensitive projects frequently covered by Non-Disclosure Agreements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field or a high school diploma/equivalent and four years of experience related to the duties of the job. Note: Post-high school education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.
• Technical understanding and skills in power system electrical theory.
• Experience working with medium voltage power and industrial power equipment.
• Electrical and mechanical abilities to plan, design, and implement power system and equipment installations, operation, and maintenance.
• The ability to obtain a US security clearance. More information about this requirement can be found here.

Preferred

The ability and interest to be cross-trained in further engineering tasks such as modeling and simulation is preferred.

Soft Money Funded Position

This position is time-limited based on soft money funding, with renewal contingent upon available funds and the needs of the University.
