Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is an on-call position. Provides grounds maintenance, general labor or other main support on an on-call basis.

Unit Position Summary

This position will assist in a wide variety of routine manual labor tasks related to general landscape, plant and tree care including preservation and treatment; grounds maintenance operations, mow lawns and landscaped areas; collect and dispose of debris; operate equipment used in landscape maintenance and construction; cut weeds, brush, and grass using hand and power equipment; perform landscape installations including plant material, signs, site furniture, edging, and boulders; shovel, rake, grade, dig, back-fill, haul, mow, operate trucks including truck/trailer combinations for transporting heavy equipment, implements, materials and supplies; assist with installation of irrigation systems; haul, spread and grade topsoil using appropriate implements; seed and sod lawn areas; assist in the transplanting and moving of trees, shrubs, flowers and other plant material; operate and perform regular maintenance to light and medium-weight vehicles, such as daily oil checks, grease fittings, and tire pressure checks; transport supplies, materials, tools, and equipment to work sites using university vehicle; issue, receive, and store supplies and equipment; maintain and install erosion control devices; assist in identifying and treating plant disease, insect, and other related problems; shovel snow, sand and de-ice walkways (If assigned); operate and maintain small power equipment and trucks, assist in monitoring working areas to assure compliance with safety precautions and proper work methods; update and maintain MSU's plant maintenance database using ArcGis Collector Application; ability send/receive emails; assist with placement and installation of tree protection fencing and with plant protection methods; maintain roads and walkways; participate in MSU's campus football tailgate clean up.

Position location: Landscape Services.

This position is expected to work 29 hours per week starting at $16.50 per hour from approximately April through November.

This position will engage in High Performance, leading edge practices, which are Innovative in their approach to increased Stewardship and Service Excellence.

Desired Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

knowledge of tools, methods, materials, and equipment used in grounds maintenance; wear protective footwear requested such as a leather work boot; applicant must have a good driving record and submit their operators license number on their application form for a motor vehicle check; the ability to work in variable weather conditions to include severe weather; frequent lifting of 26 to 75 pounds with occasional lifting over 75 pounds; knowledge of basic computer terminology and operations and the ability to use e-mail and the internet; possesion of a smart phone mobile device to enter time.

Desired Requirements:

Experience in grounds maintenance and commercial snow removal; experience with ArcGIS Collector Application; experience and knowledge of facilities structure, processes, and procedures; possession of Michigan Commercial Pesticide Applicator; experience with ArcGIS collector Application; ability to demonstrate T-shaped competencies.
