Description:

The Database Management Librarian is responsible for ensuring the internal consistency and overall quality control of the library’s discovery systems.  Maintaining the integrity of library records includes oversight of enrichment and data cleanup projects using outsource vendors and batch processes, with the objective to position the catalog for linked open data readiness. The librarian manages authority control procedures and serves as the library’s NACO liaison for PCC. The position supervises staff assigned to Tulane University theses and dissertations processing and who assists with post-authority processes, and clean-up projects. The incumbent also collects and manages departmental and ARL collection statistics processes. The Database Management Librarian collaborates with other librarians to plan and coordinate Technical Services policies, procedures, workflows, training, and projects.


Qualifications:

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • ALA-accredited MLS
  • Minimum 3 years original cataloging experience using RDA, AACR2R, LCSH, LCC, MARC 21 formats

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES TYPICALLY NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS JOB SUCCESSFULLY: 

  • Experience using OCLC Connexion and an ILS
  • Experience with authority control processes and utilizing the Library of Congress National Authority File records
  • Experience using MS Access, SQL, or other programming language to query library database
  • Experience with software for editing data in bulk, such as MarcEdit, OpenRefine, pyMARC, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve problems
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and complete complex tasks
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, in a rapidly changing and culturally diverse environment
  • Ability to plan, implement, and direct multiple projects
  • Ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively using oral and written means
  • Knowledge of emerging standards, tools, and developments in resource description and access and identity management, such as BIBFRAME, Linked Open Data, VIAF, ISNI, and ORCID.
  • Strong commitment to continued professional development

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Experience with database management or working with large datasets
  • NACO training
  • Supervisory experience
  • Reading knowledge of a Western European language
