Administrative Support Assistant III - College Of Communication & Information

WUTK Office Manager is responsible for coordinating and running the business office for WUTK, the student radio station at The University of Tennessee. The person in this position will work directly with the station’s General Manager, as well as the Underwriting/Development Director, and will supervise a small number of students (including Work Study, Practicum, and other students) working at the station each semester. This position will operate within the School of Journalism & Electronic Media (JEM) in the College of Communication and Information to run the day-to-day office operations at WUTK. Maintaining the underwriting billing, and assisting the collections of underwriting and donations to WUTK will be a major part of this position. Daily programming of radio scheduling, writing some radio copy, as well as several other office duties will be part of the responsibilities. This position will also work directly for the General Manager in an administrative assistant role. This position will also manage some social media aspects of WUTK, and will spend two hours, Monday through Friday, working in the School of Journalism & Electronic Media’s main office, assisting the JEM director and the school’s administrative coordinator.

 

Job functions/Responsibilities:

Conducting monthly billing and collections for underwriting, and documenting all donations, donors, and other non-traditional revenue needed to keep WUTK operational. Providing clerical and promotional support for the School of Journalism & Electronic Media’s main office. Learning and using IRIS under the supervision of the JEM director. This includes learning to use the UTK IRIS system.

Working on WUTK social media, including the weekly eblast, website, and other social media platforms.

Training, supervising, and working with students at WUTK, including work study, praticum, independent study, graduate teaching assistants, JEM 175 students, and volunteers. There will also be some coordinating with non-student volunteers at WUTK.

Writing copy, scheduling, editing copy, maintaining all FCC regulations and filings.

Working out-of-office events, fund raisers, station events, etc.



Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

Associate's degree and Vocational or technical training required.

Required level/type of experience:
Minimum of two years experience working in a fast-paced, exciting work environment. A minimum of one year of radio experience.

Preferred level/type of experience:

Two years experience in non-commercial radio, especially billing and clerical duties. Experience in fund raising.

Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Preferred knowledge of basic billing systems. Skills to work on websites and other social media from the ground up. Ability to adapt to different situations-at-hand that come up when working with a student staff.

Competencies/Qualifications:

Knowledge of radio business, especially non-commerical college or community radio, and non-commercial businesses. Basic math skills for billing purposes. Ability to work with people, and to give constructive criticism to students and volunteers. Ability to learn new technology associated with radio, social media, etc.
