The University of Tennessee, Knoxville is currently seeking applications for an Accountant II in the Office of Budget and Finance. 

Reporting to an Assistant Director in the Office of Budget and Finance, the Accountant II performs a variety of independent, specialized accounting and business support functions to comply with OMB Uniform Guidance, GASB pronouncements and related state requirements, as well as assists with invoicing, reporting and the university year-end close process. The position performs data analytics to ensure compliance with university policies and procedures.

Primary responsibilities include:  

The Accountant II performs a variety of independent, specialized accounting and business support functions for the Office of Budget and Finance. This position serves as the lead for recharge activities and the recharge rate approval process (service centers/recharge centers) and in the development of a financial data analytics strategy to monitor campus scholarship and procurement card spend as well as other areas as identified. This position assists with the annual year-end close process and invoicing and reporting of research-related costs. The position assists with the coordination and reporting of special projects for the University of Tennessee Knoxville (UTK) and the University of Tennessee Space Institute (UTSI), including the on-going requirements of several, recent GASB reporting changes and the related new system-wide financial reporting requirements imposed by the State of Tennessee. Organizes and completes structured assignments according to priorities and deadlines. Evaluates, documents, and implements solutions from established options and procedures. The position requires interaction with many academic and financial areas across the campus to gather, analyze, and verify information.



Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:  

The successful candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or directly related field with 3-4 years of experience in professional accounting, finance or a directly related field.  This position requires experience in using Microsoft Office products to prepare spreadsheets, databases, and word processing documents. Experience with Power BI or other report writing software/tools is preferred. The successful candidate must also have strong organizational and problem solving skills, strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies and to manage multiple projects and facilitate successful and timely completion of projects with minimal supervision.  Ability to provide excellent customer service to answer standard questions or provide instructions as well as the ability to create and deliver training to explain complex or technical rules, policies, or corrective actions to a diverse audience is highly desirable. Expertise and knowledge of fund accounting, cost accounting, GASB, GAAP and OMB Uniform Guidance is preferred. A working knowledge of university fiscal policies, SAP or enterprise resource planning software preferred.  1-2 years in higher education is preferred. Experience with administration of service and recharge centers is preferred.
