Overview

Princeton University has received a multi-year monetary gift focusing on undergraduate and graduate student health and well-being. This gift supports TigerWell, an initiative that is multi-faceted and involves engaging the campus as a whole in promoting well-being. University Health Services (UHS) administers TigerWell, which includes skills-building, outreach, events, professional development, and program assessment and evaluation. The TigerWell team (the Project Manager, three Mental Health Outreach Counselors, a part-time Administrative Coordinator, and UHS's Director of Health Promotion and Prevention Services (HPPS), in coordination with campus partners, works to bring the vision for the Initiative to reality. The Health Communications Specialist will work collaboratively with the TigerWell team, under the direction of the Project Manager, to meet Initiative goals. The Health Communications Specialist will have the opportunity to impact on how, when, and why health and well-being are communicated about to campus stakeholders and students.

We seek a well-rounded Health Communications Specialist who will lead TigerWell's health communication strategies. The Specialist's communications portfolio will:

    raise visibility and provide accurate information about the TigerWell initiative;
inform and influence individual and community decisions that relate to and impact health; promote positive social change related to well-being across the campus community; increase understanding and awareness of the services provided by Health Promotion and Prevention Services (HPPS), the home department of TigerWell; and engage and support a wide variety of stakeholders with their communications needs (including staff and faculty campus partners, and undergraduate and graduate students).

The Specialist will be an experienced communicator with interest in managing multiple priorities and complex projects. In addition, they will be an educator who understands higher education as a unique setting for social education and personal development; an advocate with a passion for individual and community well-being; and a person with sensitivity to issues of social justice and inclusion who welcomes the opportunity to engage with a wide variety of stakeholders.

Planning and Consultation (50%)

Provide leadership within TigerWell for short-term and longer-term strategic planning around needs, opportunities, challenges, and priorities for the Initiative's communications Provide consultation to each TigerWell Grant recipient in developing materials that support their efforts Provide consultation to and collaborate with other campus partners as needed, outside of the Grants program Conduct research to identify communication goals and audiences, clarify content, and identify appropriate venues and design Design, manage, and evaluate health communication campaigns; use evidence-informed strategies such as social marketing; determine appropriate channels for different populations and create effective messages that are tailored to the intended audience(s) Ensure consistency of messaging and non-duplication of communication efforts around campus well-being, in consultation with Health Promotion and Prevention Services (HPPS) Consult with University Health Services (UHS) staff, as appropriate

Communications Materials (40%)

Apply evidence-informed practices in health communication to design and implement materials that promote individual and community health and well-being and positive culture change within the campus community Develop and coordinate the production and dissemination of information for the TigerWell initiative Develop ideas for, edit, and proof written material to be presented in a variety of formats (e.g., flyers, reports, web-based materials, forms, email messages, publications) Maintain and share in ongoing development of TigerWell's online presence Work with vendors and consultants as needed Maintain records and archives, as appropriate

Other Administrative Responsibilities (10%)

Participate in other initiatives, projects, and activities as assigned by the TigerWell Project Manager, the Director of Health Promotion and Prevention Services, or in partnership with other campus partners. Represent TigerWell in campus committees, working groups, meetings, and programs, as needed. Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with 2 + years of experience in public health or health education communications work or Master's Degree in Public Health or Health Education with focus on health communication Working knowledge of the following programs or interfaces: Squarespace, Instagram, Qualtrics, InDesign, Canva, Microsoft Office Suite, as well as competency with web design and development for mobile devices Knowledge of inclusive practices in health communication The ability to write with clarity, accuracy, and brevity; demonstrated skill in translating complex topics into clear, lively, and straightforward prose; keen eye for detail as well as careful attention to tone and quality of writing; ability to convey content in culturally responsive ways to varied audiences Understanding of best practices for communicating with particular audiences (e.g., undergraduate students, graduate students, staff and faculty campus partners, communities of shared cultural identities) Strong innovative and strategic thinking in message/campaign development and coordination
