Job Summary Manage and provide leadership to Facilities turf maintenance team, including landscaping, pesticides and irrigation. Design and manage special events and programs such as Institute Pest Management (IPM), Game Day, etc. Responsible for setting employee goals, assessing employee performance and providing feedback, and making pay recommendations. This position will interact on a regular basis with: Grounds crew and equipment maintenance personnel, pest control specialists, Facilities Management and technical staff.

This position typically will advise and counsel: Grounds crew, campus partners, and external partners.

This position will supervise: Assigned grounds and irrigation personnel

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Manage Turf Operations and Maintenance teams, including supervising staff and contract work; Ensure high standards of Institute landscape and grounds
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Manage and coordinate the Institutes irrigation system as part of the campus sustainability program for water conservation
  • Plan and manage Institute pesticide management program; Manage pesticide and fertilizer use for the entire department and coordinate all chemical health documentation.
  • Coordinate and implement the Institutes Inclement Weather Emergency Ice and Snow Removal Program and assist with the Institutes Emergency Storm Relief Tree Removal Plan
  • Oversee and manage the Institutes Leaf Removal Program; Assist with trash removal and storm drain cleaning
  • Manage, maintain and operate equipment and tools including motorized vehicles and hand/power tools; Map Institute Turf areas using GIS database; Procure material following State purchasing policies and guidelines
  • Assist in budget preparation, monitoring, development of contractual services
  • Hire, train, and manage assigned staff; perform performance appraisals, give oral and written guidance, recommend employment actions
  • Prepare written communications, conduct meetings, develop specifications, reports, correspondences, etc.

Required Qualifications Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Turf Management or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience

Other Required Qualifications
Valid Georgia Driver’s License; Georgia Commercial Pesticide Applicators License, Category 24Work environment involves situations that require following extensive safety precautions. Job holder may be exposed to extreme weather conditions, hazardous materials, fumes, dust, hot surfaces, noise and rotating machinery. Must have ability to bend, reach, twist, and lift up to 50 pounds; ability to work outside of typical business hours as needed, potentially including but not limited to evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Required Experience
Five to six years of job related experience

Master's Degree

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities SKILLS
Advanced knowledge of irrigation, turf installation and maintenance, leaf removal and operation of associated equipment. Skills in landscaping project management, calibration of spray equipment, motor vehicle operation, workforce organization and supervision and communications are required.
