The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory is a world-class fusion energy research laboratory managed by Princeton University for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science. PPPL is dedicated to developing the scientific and technological knowledge base for fusion energy. The Laboratory advances the fields of fusion energy and plasma physics research to develop the scientific understanding and key innovations needed to realize fusion as an energy source for the world.

Princeton University’s Plasma Physics Laboratory has an opening in the Information Technology Department for a Media Services Technician. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and coordinating the audiovisual and media services activities for the laboratory. The responsibilities include providing timely AV support and troubleshooting to a diverse set of users while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate must have strong written and verbal communications skills.


  • Provide multimedia services for lab sponsored events and meetings which can include organizing the meeting, monitoring the meeting, streaming, and recording based upon the needs of the customer.
  • Troubleshoot video and audio conferencing solutions.
  • Maintain conference room equipment which can include computers, projectors, TVs, etc.
  • Provide technical support across the Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms.
  • Record, edit, post, stream and troubleshooting videos from lab events and meetings.
  • Make recommendations for new audio and video technologies per customer requirements and to help improve business processes.
  • Provide end user audio/visual training and support as needed.
  • Provide Zoom account and settings administration.
  • Maintain IT department loaner equipment which includes the configuration of laptop and phones.
  • Provide end user support as needed which may include user account administration, computer configurations, and processing equipment.
  • Provide backup support to the Help Desk.
  • Document procedures and maintain knowledge base.
  • Resolve support tickets within required time-frames.
  • Monitor AV email and provide timely responses.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field is desired
  • AVIXA CTS, Crestron, Extron, or Apple preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of AV related technical experience
  • Hardware and software troubleshooting skills.
  • Adapt and identify new and emerging technologies to improve business process.
  • Experience with troubleshooting A/V equipment and software.
  • Experience using a ticket system, preferably ServiceNow.
  • Experience with Google Apps, MS Office, Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, Bomgar, Zoom, Crestron, Extron, Cisco, and Kaltura.
  • Prior experience monitoring and supporting an IT Help Desk.
  • Prior experience troubleshooting software, hardware, and networking problems

  • Experience with troubleshooting A/V equipment and software
  • Knowledge of multiple operating system platforms
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe products such as Premiere, Google Apps, Final Cut Pro, Bomgar, Zoom, Crestron, Extron, Cisco, and Kaltura
  • Experience using a ticket system, preferably ServiceNow
  • Prior experience monitoring and supporting an IT Help Desk
  • Prior experience troubleshooting software, hardware, and networking problems

Physical Requirements:

  • Job occasionally requires lifting computer equipment such as desktops, laptops, monitors, etc. that may weigh up to 50lbs.
  • The job also occasionally requires running cables under and around equipment and furniture.
Working Conditions:

  • Must be available during the core Help Desk hours which can be subject to change.
  • Hours will be set based upon a 30 min or 1 hour lunch.
  • Saturday work will be required for supporting events such as Science on Saturday.
  • Possible of sporadic telework depending on lab hosted events.
