VICE PRESIDENT FOR ACADEMICS, STUDENT AFFAIRS AND RESEARCH
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Under the leadership of the System President, serves as the Vice President for Academics, Student Affairs and Research for the SC Technical College System. The Vice President is an Executive Staff level position with decision-making authority for system-wide activities in support of the development, implementation, and regular evaluation of all educational programs, activities, and student support services, research and accountability functions offered through the SC Technical College System. Responsible for coordinating and directing the strategic agenda for several key areas system- wide: Academic Affairs, Student Services, Institutional Research, Compliance, and Academic Partnerships. Provides leadership and advice to Vice Presidents at the sixteen colleges who hold similar vice president or director roles. Additionally, provides information and counsels the State Board, System Presidents, and external stakeholders on emerging trends and practices in career and technical education programs. Oversees more than 15 college peer groups, that meet regularly to discuss academic, student, and/or compliance related issues. Manages the development and implementation of audit policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure that the statutory responsibilities for accountability and quality assurance in all academic and student services activities and programs are met. Serves as a principal agency liaison for educational programs and services with business and industry representatives, federal and state agencies and organizations, including the US Department of Education and Labor, the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education, the South Carolina Department of Education, the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce, and the Office of the Governor. The Vice President is involved in secondary and postsecondary technical education programmatic planning and implementation. Responsible for institutional effectiveness to support performance funding, data collection and analysis, development and implementation of innovative training programs and oversight of the motorcycle rider education program. Serves as principal advisor to the System President on all matters relating to academic programs and student services provided through the SC Technical College System.
SBTCE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A master’s degree and seven (7) years relevant program experience.
PREFERRED MININIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree in higher education or an academic discipline with experience in educational administration and management. Requires thorough knowledge of SACSCOC standards, SC Commission on Higher Education and US Department of Education’s principles and guidelines governing higher education. Requires knowledge of state and federal laws and legislative processes as they relate to higher education. Requires ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders, in missions, and other groups. Ability to manage a wide variety of priorities under significant time constraints.
