Job Id: 617 # of Openings: 1 Event Production ManagerFocus on Academic and Special Events Job OverviewThe Event Production Manager has responsibility for leadership and management of the Event Production Team while also providing “hands on” training and support to other staff and student workers. This includes live event support and limited support for recording and editing. Reporting to the Director of Academic and Scholarly Technology (AST), this position is part of the Academic and Institutional Technology (AIT) department that is responsible for supporting Wheaton College in meeting its strategic, operational, and educational objectives through leadership and support of appropriate information technology solutions and services. Core scheduled hours for this position would be 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership to a team of audio and video professionals who train students to provide production and event support in a collaborative, service-oriented, customer-driven, and cost-effective manner.
  • Oversee management and operation of:
  • Audio, video, and lighting support for College events
  • Distribution of College media across multiple platforms
  • Acting as liaison with outside vendors for custom audio and video productions
  • Orientation of faculty and production staff on one-button teaching studio
  • Processing of media for the College’s learning management system
  • Internal and external billing for production and event support
  • Serve lead role in the area of customer relations for all services provided by Production and Event Support staff, directing those served to appropriate resources, maintaining good mechanisms for feedback, addressing concerns, and coordinating support as a member of the College’s Event Coordination Council.
  • Develop a team of professional service employees (staff and students) that deliver quality services in a responsible and cost-effective way.
  • Implement a training program of increasingly – experienced student leaders who can manage a crew of other students who may still be learning Audio/Video/Lighting (A/V/L).
  • Incorporate and manage part-time consultants from the community, as needed, to support large, high-profile events.
  • Orient faculty members to the use of the one-button teaching studio and other means to self-operate media.
  • Manage the unit’s budget for all capital and operating expenses.
  • Manage relationships with third-party vendors to ensure compliance with contractual and service level agreement requirements and the cost-effective delivery of products and services.
  • Provide effective knowledge base design and escalation support to the AIT Service Desk as well as effective communication and service to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Maintain current knowledge and skills related to leadership in higher education IT services, including relevant conference attendance, professional development plans and effective management of technical staff.
  • This job description is intended to represent key areas of responsibilities; specific assignments may vary from time to time, and other duties may be assigned. Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline (e.g., Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering) or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired.
    • Minimum of five years of experience leading a technical team, with preference given to leading staff working in event support, media delivery, and custom production.
    • Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining major components of production and event support facilities.
    • Experience managing large, complex technical projects.
    • Ability to function effectively under pressure in environments of rapid change, conflicting demands, and crisis management.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate with constituents at all levels of the college with varying degrees of technical expertise.
    • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, work effectively with minimal direct supervision, and exhibit self-motivated initiative.
    • Preferred: Experience managing production and event support in a higher education setting.
    Physical RequirementsThe employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to 25 pounds.
