Minimum Qualifications::

For this position, employees must have at least one of the following:
1. Any Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university AND two (2) years of professional experience from an accredited college or university; OR
2. Any Associate degree from an accredited college or university AND six (6) years of professional experience; OR
3. Valid California Community College instructor credential appropriate to the subject per Education Code 87355 (issued prior to July 1, 1990); OR
4. A combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent of items 1 or 2 above (Applicants applying on the basis of equivalency must submit the Supplemental Application for Equivalency Determination form in addition to all other required materials).

Experience Required::

• Must hold an AHIMA credential and a degree or certification in the teaching discipline (RHIT or RHIA as well as CCS, CCS-P, CDIP, CHDA, CHPS, CHTS, CPHI, and other credentials as developed by AHIMA CAHIIM).
• Current RHIT or RHIA credential.
• Background in and current knowledge of HIM educational theory and methodology consistent with the teaching assignment (e.g., curriculum development; educational psychology; test construction, measurement, evaluation, and assessment) as required by CAHIIM and AHIMA standards.
• Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Desired Qualifications::

Preference will be given to those candidates demonstrating a high level of professional expertise on the basis of:
• Two years full-time (or equivalent) recent and successful experience teaching adults.
• Two years full-time experience working in health information management.
• Experience with various health information software
• Master’s degree or higher in a health-related field from an accredited college or university.
• Recent or current teaching experience at the community college level.
• Previous experience in developing curriculum on the college or university level.
• Knowledge of and an ability to integrate instructional technology in the classroom and to be able to use such technology to offer curriculum and student learning through diverse delivery modes.
• Current knowledge of online best practices and LMS platforms.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities::

Instruct courses in Health Information Technology (HIT) and related subjects.
Provide effective and student centered instruction in the classroom, online, and in the community. Provide program mentoring adjunct faculty on issues related to instruction. Collaborate with Saddleback College student support programs to serve students. Participate in curriculum development and serve on department, division, college and district committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program. Participate in the formulation of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and the Student Learning Outcomes assessment. Maintain formal office and campus hours; participate in department and division meetings. Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies pertinent to areas of assignment; learn and apply emerging technologies and advances (e.g., computer software applications) as necessary to perform duties in an efficient, organized and timely manner. Teach scheduled classes and perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities; comply with district, college and division policies in the performance of duties. Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.
Demonstrate experience with online education and best practices. Participate in the ongoing development of the HIT curriculum. Collaborate in selection and maintenance of internship sites. Review and recommend appropriate software to be used in the program. Participate in the accreditation process. Assist with programmatic data analysis and reporting. Assist with academic representation in conferences, job fairs, and outreach. Update knowledge and practices to stay current with HIM. Demonstrate compliance with the department, division, and the college’s processes.
