Director of Career Development - Ancilla College of Marian University (Donaldson, IN)

Job Description:

The Director of Career Development is a vital member of Ancilla College of Marian University and of The Exchange, a team empowering students and alumni to explore and discern potential career paths and develop key skills critical to their long-term professional success. The Exchange engages with students early and often and connects students to the larger community in the form of on-campus employment, informational interviews, networking, internships, mentoring, and community-engaged learning. The Exchange was recently recognized as a ’20-’21 Career Development College of Distinction.

Working closely with the Dean of Student Success and Engagement the Director of Career Development promotes Marian University’s Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by developing intentional, measurable strategies to engage and support the academic and social integration of all students. Providing career development support to students; engaging employers in workforce readiness initiatives and networking opportunities; and collaborating with The Exchange, faculty, and other partners to utilize and further develop student resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values, honoring the legacy of the founding congregation, promoting unity in diversity, and integrating the Catholic Franciscan intellectual traditions in courses, programs, and services.
  • Serve as an engaged member of the Student Success and Engagement Team of ACMU and an engaged partner with team and position partners of Marian University Indianapolis.
  • Educate and advise students and alumni on career exploration and career development topics through individual appointments (email, phone, WebEx, and in-person), group sessions, class presentations, events, and workshops.
  • Collaborate with Exchange team to:

  • Ensure strong and consistent communication through regular meeting attendance, promotion and knowledge of relevant events and resources, and utilization of available software and systems (e.g. Handshake, federal work study process, etc.).
  • Manage the career document review process in Handshake for ACMU students, maintaining a 1-2 business day response rate for all Handshake documents.
  • Align expectations, procedures, and performance evaluations for interns and student employees and oversee the collection additional information related to ACMU as necessary.
  • Align federal work study program on ACMU campus with university-wide systems.
  • Expand and promote robust online/virtual, 24/7 easy access, grab and go resources on career and leadership development topics.
  • Assess and track outcomes for the success of The Exchange, students, and graduates in relation to the institutional learning outcomes.
  • Support student engagement in planning and coordinating student events with campus partners.
  • Interact with community leaders and other stakeholders to assess community and regional educational needs and assist ACMU in meeting those needs.
  • Select, secure, and cultivate relationships with local employer partners for Ancilla Works and other opportunities for ACMU students. Maintain strong employer relations by engaging employers in curriculum, connecting employers with students for career development and employment opportunities, and helping inform program offerings and areas of satisfaction and/or areas for improvement.
  • Connect with colleagues in The Exchange, in professional associations, and in other institutions (e.g. consortiums) to share best practices and participate in continuous learning.
  • Engage faculty and academic advisors to integrate career exploration and development into curricula (e.g. career development workshops, presentations, and events; defining internships expectations and standards, etc.).
  • Act as liaison to Admissions, Marketing Communications, and Student Outreach and Registration team for ACMU students, as requested (e.g. prospective student/family visits, interview days, presentations, events, reviewing marketing materials and messaging, etc.).
  • In collaboration with advancement and financial aid, oversee Earn to Learn Scholarship program. Assist in writing, development, and administration of grant proposals, budgets, and reports.
  • Respond to inquiries from students, colleagues, and stakeholders while maintaining standards of confidentiality and privacy, in a timely manner. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, FERPA, student records, and any other protected documentation.

  • Required Qualifications:

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree plus 1-2 years of relevant experience required.
  • Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Human Resources, Counseling, College Student Personnel, or related field preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written); ability to connect with a multitude of audiences (students, faculty, staff, administration, alumni, external community); strong initiative, work ethic, and critical thinking skills; solid follow-through with all constituents; commitment to customer service; and the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and goals, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Social media proficiency, especially in relation to student and alumni engagement, is also a plus.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and direction, as well as within a team environment.
  • High ethical standards for maintaining confidential information.
  • Experience in Career Service Management systems (e.g. Handshake, Symplicity, etc.) is a plus.
  • A sense of humor appreciated.
