Associate Director for Marketing

The School of Information Sciences (iSchool) seeks applicants for the position of Associate Director for Marketing. This position will oversee the development, execution, and evaluation of a comprehensive marketing strategy across multiple platforms to reach target audiences, including prospective students and faculty, research partners and funders, private and corporate donors, and influencers for program rankings. Manage branding strategy and public relations to raise visibility and promote the prestige of the iSchool among key audiences.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Marketing Strategy, Execution, and Assessment

  • Develop and execute a cohesive marketing plan integrating web and electronic communications, social media networks, digital and print publications, and promotional materials
  • Manage the marketing budget, allocating and disbursing funds based on goals and objectives
  • Write marketing copy for the website, promotional materials, and advertising
  • Create and implement a comprehensive advertising plan for digital and print platforms
  • Secure sponsorships that raise visibility and build prestige among target audiences
  • Utilize analytics and metrics to prepare reports that assess marketing efforts and inform decision-making
  • Collaborate with the University’s Office of Strategic Marketing and Branding
  • Complete other related duties as assigned

Brand Strategy

  • Inform and enhance brand strategy by conducting SWOT and competitive market analyses
  • Develop a messaging strategy and key messages to be shared across multiple platforms
  • Provide strategic and creative direction to designers for recruitment and promotional materials, digital and print advertising, and the iSchool’s website, ensuring consistency in the presentation of the iSchool brand
  • Oversee the enhancement and management of on-brand photography resources
  • Ensure adherence to the campus-wide brand guidelines while tailoring these guidelines to the iSchool’s strengths, audiences, and goals
  • Propose new initiatives to raise brand awareness on campus
  • Promote advocacy of the iSchool brand, training internal audiences to deliver key messages in meaningful ways

Staff Supervision

  • Supervise the Digital Marketing and Web Specialist, integrating digital and web marketing into overarching marketing plans and providing direction for special projects, including video production and social media advertising campaigns

Public Relations

  • Write press releases and prepare information for the media, pursuing opportunities to raise the visibility of the iSchool’s excellence among external audiences
  • Respond to and pursue media inquiries, arranging interviews with faculty and staff
  • Work with faculty to develop well-timed story pitches that lead to publicity in target publications and news outlets

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations, or a closely related field

Preferred Education: MBA or master’s degree in a related field

Required Experience: Five years of experience in strategic marketing communications, with at least 3 years of experience in higher education. Demonstrated experience planning and executing marketing programs using a data-driven approach. Experience with digital marketing, including website marketing, social media (i.e., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.), and online advertising (i.e., Google and social media advertising). Experience in producing high-quality print materials. Experience with budget development and management. Experience in conducting market research. Supervisory experience.

Preferred Experience: Proven success in promoting faculty research and public relations experience.

Successful candidates will have: Demonstrated leadership and management skills. Strong project management and communication skills. Proven copywriting and copyediting ability. Knowledge of Google Analytics, SEO, and marketing automation tools such as CRM. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams. Ability to work in a fast-paced, goal-oriented, and deadline-driven environment. Knowledge of digital marketing, including website marketing, social media (i.e., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.), and online advertising (i.e., Google and social media advertising).

SALARY AND APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

This is a full-time Civil Service Marketing Associate position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the deadline. Salary is commensurate with experience.

    Research

    Undergraduate Education
