Job Summary:

An employee is this classification performs work of considerable difficulty in installing, maintaining and supporting the College’s computer systems and equipment. Work is distinguished by the ability to handle a variety of services that include installation, enhancement and support for applications and equipment. Provides technical expertise for strategic and long-term planning and the coordination of assignments for technicians. General supervision is received from the assigned manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field and 2 years experience or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  2. Considerable knowledge of systems administration theories and concepts.
  3. Considerable knowledge of computer hardware, software and network security principles.
  4. Considerable knowledge integrating and administering hardware/software using various systems management platforms that include but are not limited to Microsoft SCCM, Jamf Pro and Google Admin Console.
  5. Considerable knowledge in programming concepts for system automation using scripting languages.
  6. Good knowledge of various database architectures with considerable skill to integrate with custom applications and scripts.
  7. Good knowledge of A/V, automation and control systems.
  8. Considerable skill in written and verbal communication.
  9. Considerable skill in project management, problem solving and analytical aptitude.
  10. Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes days/evenings/weekends as needed by the department.

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Essential Duties:

1. Develop, configure, and maintain the systems to support the campus IT infrastructure.
2. Serve as top-level departmental resource for resolving highly technical problems and prepare appropriate documentation.
3. Administer various systems management platforms used by the department. Configure operating system deployment workflows.
4. Lend expertise, orient, and coordinate the efforts of the other full and part-time technicians for the day-to-day operations of the department.
5. Provides assistance to direct supervisor designing and developing processes used for various management tools and services.
Configure and maintain all virtual servers and services within the department.
6. Assist with departmental budgeting and planning to adjust for future technological needs.

1. Perform other job-related duties as assigned which pertain to the job description.
2. Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes days/evenings/weekends as needed by the department.

Elgin Community College offers 2,000 courses to choose from and services that fit the lifestyles of busy adult learners. Every semester, 6,000 returning adult students take classes at ECC. Their average age is 28, and 80 percent of them are taking one or two courses per semester.

ECC Campus: Thirteen buildings grace a picturesque 217-acre campus. It's a modern network of buildings where learning is enhanced by the latest equipment, Internet and wireless access and computer instruction across the curricula. ECC is outfitted for the future and continues to grow to meet the ever-changing needs of our students.

Streamwood Center: In 1998, the college and Village of Streamwood remodeled the lower level of Village Hall to include computer and general purpose classrooms. Classes offered there make it easier for those who live in the eastern portions of ECC’s district to attend college.

Satelitte Campuses: ECC holds classes throughout the northwest suburbs at off-campus locations scattered across the district. Whether it is a medical center where ECC nursing students assist in patient care, a fire station where students transform into prospective lifesavers, or a nearby forest preserve where bird watching takes over on Saturday mornings, ECC classes are somewhere nearby.
