Department Information

The Area of Counselor Education and College Student Affairs in the Department of Counseling, Higher Education, and Speech-Language Pathology in the College of Education at the University of West Georgia invites dynamic applicants to join our rapidly growing Counselor Education. The Counselor Education program is a CACREP-accredited M.Ed. in Professional Counseling (School and Clinical Mental Health Counseling), an Ed.S. in Professional Counseling, and an Ed.D. in Professional Counseling and Supervision. The College of Education at the University of West Georgia is doctoral granting and SACSCOC-accredited, a recognized leader in preparing exemplary practitioners for all educational roles. The College offers high-level technological support, mentoring for new faculty, and opportunities to work with graduate students at all levels and to partner with school districts. The University of West Georgia, one of Georgia’s four Regional Comprehensive universities, is a rapidly growing institution located approximately 50 minutes west of Atlanta. Job Summary

The successful candidate will assume a range of responsibilities including teaching graduate courses in Counselor Education; participating departmental committee work and professional service; advising students; supervising students in field experiences; and working collaboratively with doctoral programs in the College of Education. The candidate must be licensed/certified or license/certification eligible as a professional counselor/school counselor in Georgia. Candidates must have strong identities as counselors and counselor educators as evidenced by active participation in professional counseling organizations, demonstrated commitment to and evidence of a research and publication agenda, and knowledge of and commitment to the CACREP accreditation standards and process. Desirable candidates will demonstrate excellence in teaching a broad range of graduate level counseling courses. The desirable candidate will have successful counseling experience in agencies or schools, conducting meaningful research and scholarship, teaching graduate courses, guiding graduate student research, serving on doctoral committees, identifying and pursuing collaborative and entrepreneurial opportunities, developing and providing instruction through on-line or alternative methods, and developing collaborative relationships with academic and non-academic partners.

This is a tenure-track, ten-month appointment with the possibility for summer employment.

Required Qualifications

    Earned doctorate in Counselor Education (preferably from a CACREP-accredited program).

    Demonstrated experience working with counselor education doctoral students.

    Prepared to teach courses in Counseling.

    A minimum of 3 years of professional experience working in counseling.

    A demonstrated understanding of Counselor Education.

    Commitment to working collaboratively with other faculty and practitioners to incorporate the professional counseling competencies into a cohesive experience for graduate students

    Demonstrated understanding of assessment of student learning outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications
  • A CACREP accredited program.

  • Counseling experience in school or community settings is preferred.
Proposed Salary

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
