INTRODUCTION

The University of Connecticut (UConn) is pleased to invite applications for a non-tenure track Lecturer position in the Department of Mathematics in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

The University of Connecticut’s actuarial science program is a vibrant program with nearly 500 undergraduates, 25 master’s students and 6 Ph.D. students. Since its inception, our program has contributed over 1300 baccalaureate and over 600 master’s graduates to the work force. It is one of the few Actuarial Science programs of its kind in the New England.

The University of Connecticut’s Actuarial Science Program has been a Society of Actuaries’ recognized Center of Actuarial Excellence (CAE) every year since 2009 and was one of the original 13 schools named worldwide. Today, it is one of just 33 schools so recognized throughout the world and the only one in New England. In 2016, the program was also named as a Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) University Award Winner—one of just 4 schools so identified in the first year of the CAS Award. That recognition is available once every 3 years, and the UConn program won that award again the next time it was eligible in 2019.

Founded in 1881, UConn is a Land Grant and Sea Grant institution and member of the Space Grant Consortium. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Teach undergraduate courses as assigned. The equivalent of 21 credit hours of teaching per academic year is required.
2. Provide academic advising for undergraduate majors as it pertains to formulating career goals and planning academic coursework.
3. Serve as a resource and maintain cooperative relationships with the insurance and/or financial services industry.
4. Participate in an active program of professional development consistent with personal and professional goals.
5. Serve on Department, College and/or University committees.
6. Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Associate in the Society of Actuaries (ASA) or Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS). 10 years of professional experience in actuarial science. Preliminary actuarial exam content experience. Demonstrated excellence in oral, written and interpersonal skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries (FSA) or Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS). 3 years of teaching experience, or experience as a regular speaker to a professional actuarial audience. Demonstrated ability to teach a variety of technical actuarial science courses. Demonstrated leadership. Involvement in Professional/Academic Committees. Experience in an advising or mentoring capacity.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This 9-month appointment as Lecturer (non-tenure track) has an anticipated start date of August 23, 2021. The successful candidate’s academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
