Job Description:

DNC 250B Thesis Writing
Through dance at Mills College, we aim to move the edge of what's possible. Our faculty of noted choreographers and scholars dedicates itself to training and enlivening the whole artist, and we invite students to relate their physical practice to their creative and scholarly work and allow each distinct way of knowing to inform the other. We believe that thinking bodies require moving minds. We also support contemporary artists as mirrors reflecting and altering pressing issues in and beyond the field. These range from social justice, embodiment, and presence and telepresence to life at the margins and utopian futures.

Course Description:
DNC 250B Thesis: Writing 2 credits (R)
In section B of the Thesis series, candidates, under supervision of a thesis advisor, will complete original scholarly research begun the previous semester and write a formal 30-50 page paper that contributes to scholarship in the field. Students will also complete an oral comprehensive exam with both a written and verbal component.

Compensation:
For faculty new to Mills, compensation is $6,500 per course with a terminal degree and $6,000 per course without a terminal degree. Adjunct compensation is governed by a Collective Bargaining Agreement and increases with seniority at Mills College.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications
MFA or PhD, evidence of intellectual engagement in Dance Studies through published scholarly work, and past experience closely mentoring and editing student writing, as students prepares a chapter-long research project of their choosing as part of the capstone requirements for the MFA degree.

Additional Information:

This is an exempt, part-time position. The compensation includes state-mandated benefits including Social Security, State Disability Insurance, Workers' Compensation Insurance, Unemployment Insurance and Sick Day accrual. Employees also receive free admission to campus events, use of the pool, fitness center, and tennis courts.
