Learning Coach, Office for Medical Student Affairs

The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is recruiting for a 20 hour per week Learning Coach.

The Learning Coach will assist the Director for Programs and Resources for Academic Excellence and the Office for Medical Student Affairs with creating learning support services and resources that will help students meet their academic goals.

The Learning Coach will:

  • In consultation with the Director for Programs and Resources for Academic Excellence and the Office for Medical Student Affairs, develop, deliver, and assess a robust program of small group discussions and workshops on a variety of study topics that address students’ needs, including but not limited to: the transition to medical school. Step 1, Step 2 CK and Step 2 CS preparation, time management, note-taking, study cycle, and motivation.
  • Create hard copy and electronic resources such as study templates and resource lists to be available to students on campus and in Blackboard.
  • Meet with students individually and in small groups to consult on learning strategies and study schedules during afternoon, evening, or weekend hours.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree preferred, preferably in education or psychology.
  • 2 years’ experience working with adult students or in higher education.
  • Experience facilitating small and large group workshops.
  • Comfort with a variety of educational technologies including Blackboard.
  • Experience working with a diverse group of students with a range of learning needs.
  • Knowledge of styles, preferences and disabilities.
  • Knowledge of psychosocial conditions that impact learning and performance such as racism, stereotype threat, grit, resilience, self-efficacy, social/cognitive career theory
  • Excellent judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, inclusion, and equity.
  • Familiarity with high-stakes objective testing and/or the medical school environment preferred.
