Research and Policy Fellow, Stanford Center for Racial Justice

Job description

Research and Policy Fellow, Stanford Center for Racial Justice

Stanford University

Job Number:

Stanford's Center for Racial Justice invites third-year law students and recent law graduates to apply for a new Research and Policy Fellowship, which can begin as early as May 2021 or in August 2021.

The Fellow will support the work of the Center for Racial Justice through extending existing projects and research as well as investigating and assisting with developing new projects. Current programs include a speaker series, “Tuesday Race Talks,” which engages leading thinkers and activists in racial justice. Current areas of research and policy reform engaged in by the Center include i) policing and public safety, ii) education equity and opportunity and iii) economic security and opportunity. The Center has research and policy reform projects in each of these areas. The projects involve partnerships with a wide range of outside organizations, including the Association of African American Mayors, IntegrateNYC, public interest law firms such as Public Counsel, and elected officials, ranging from the Governor of Alabama to members of California's State Assembly. The Fellow will also contribute to increasing the Center's public presence through dissemination and publication of information about the Center's projects in various digital and traditional venues. The Fellow, on occasion, may also assist with Center administration, events, and programs.

This fellowship would be a good entry-level position for a recent law graduate interested in gaining exposure to the policy-making process or the research and teaching aspects of the legal academy. Depending upon the interests of the Fellow, there could be an opportunity to engage in independent research related to the work and mission of the Center.

  • experience working in the policy realm in any of the current areas of the Center's research;
  • strong academic credentials;

  • commitment to close attention to detail;
  • well-developed inter-personal skills; and
  • excellent teamwork skills.

The Fellow will be eligible to elect medical and other benefits - found here
