Position Number: 40017511 This Assistant Professor position will be a full member of the Georgia Cancer Center with primary appointment to the Georgia Cancer Center and will be in the Cancer Prevention, Control & Population Health (CPC&PH) Program. Research will be the primary responsibility/focus. Teaching/Education and Service commitments are also an expectation. The position is expected to work with a multidisciplinary team and address cancer health disparities and inequities among at-risk populations. Full participation in the Georgia Cancer Center and CPC& PH Program activities is expected.Responsibilities The duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Obtain and maintain well-extramurally funded, productive research activities that support the CPC&PH Program at the Georgia Cancer Center and the Georgia Cancer Center at-large. Supporting / funding organizations are expected to be those recognized by the National Institutes of Health / National Cancer Institute (NCI). This position is imperative for the Georgia Cancer Center's efforts toward Comprehensive NCI designation status, as without a strong Cancer Prevention, Control and Population Health Program, this designation will not be feasible.
  • Establish and maintain a nationally recognized research program in cancer prevention, control, and population health that engages the community, reaches minority and underserved populations, and contributes to impacting and reducing cancer health disparities and mitigating health inequities. Research may be community-based participatory research, community-engaged approaches, epidemiological studies, etc.
  • Engage is teaching I educational activities at the Georgia Cancer Center, the departmental level, Medical College of Georgia, and the College of Graduate Studies programs that are oncology-focused. This may include providing Grand Rounds, Research In Progress, special guest lectures in cancer-focused courses, etc. This also includes mentoring medical students, research pre and postdoctoral fellows and serving as a research mentor to those interested in Cancer Prevention, Control, and Population Health and Cancer Health Disparities and Inequities at the community level. This is a position for a faculty member that works with public health and its population. There is no bench-science component of mentoring for this position.
  • Engage in service opportunities at the Georgia Cancer Center, the assigned department, the CPC&PH Program, the Medical College of Georgia and Augusta University. This includes service on committees, task forces, interviewing potential faculty applicants when requested, etc. As the career progresses, this will also include service on community, regional, state, and national committees and NIH study sections.
  • Perform all other related duties/tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications Must have a doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, MD/PhD) in health sciences field from an accredited college or university. Preferred Qualifications DrPH, PhD in Nursing, Psychology, Social Behavioral Sciences, Epidemiology, or other health-related doctorate. Prior experience in community engagement and recruiting community and minority/underserved populations is very desirable. An interest in social determinants of health’s, addressing cancer health disparities and inequities, and with a focus on community-based participatory research. Shift/Salary Academic rank, tenure status and salary to be commensurate with qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.Conditions of Employment
