Description:

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences invites applicants for a full-time licensed adult psychiatrist, rank commensurate with experience, to perform services at the Behavioral Health Outpatient Clinic (BHOC) at University Medical Center (UMC). The BHOC provides a competent staff of licensed therapists, psychologists, and physicians that provide comprehensive outpatient behavioral health services designated to empower patients to overcome psychiatric disorders and function effectivity in their family, workplace, and community. The candidate will be expected to provide diagnostic assessments, medication evaluations, psychotherapy, and management of medications. Teaching responsibilities will include supervision of adult psychiatry residents and medical students rotating through the facility. Candidates will also be expected to contribute to our educational program by participating in the didactic series for adult psychiatry, by giving ground grounds, and participating in our continuing medical education conference series. 


Qualifications:

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

  1. Candidates must have completed an approved general psychiatry residency and be board certified/eligible in general psychiatry
  2. Licensed physician by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners 
  3. Able to meet criteria to be credentialed by University Medical Center, New Orleans and Tulane Medical Center  

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES TYPICALLY NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS JOB SUCCESSFULLY:   

1. Crisis Intervention

2. Experience diagnosing and treating adults with Psychiatric Disorders

3. Interdisciplinary consultation and collaboration skills

4. Ability to develop and implement individual intervention plans

5. Psychiatric evaluation and treatment of Adults

6. Skills to complete consultations and required documentation

7. Excellent communication and writing skills

8. Flexibility and ability to organize and manage time independently

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

1.  Experience working with medical professionals

2.  Experience participating as a member of an interdisciplinary team

3.  Experience in supervision and teaching

4.  Experience in consultation with allied professionals

5.  Experience in Teaching and supervision of Residents and Medical Students
