Assistant Professor Health, Physical Education and Research
TITLE: Assistant/Associate Professor in Health, Physical Education, and ResearchDEPARTMENT: School of Education, Human Development, and Consumer Sciences REPORTS TO: Chair, School of Education, Human Development and Consumer SciencesEFFECTIVE DATE: TBDEMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-time EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Exempt PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB: The School of Education, Human Development, and Consumer Sciences at Kentucky State University invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track position as Assistant or Associate Professor in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation, with an emphasis in Exercise Science. A master’s degree is required and a doctorate preferred in Exercise Science or a related field. Professional experience as a practitioner in a field related to exercise science and in utilizing equipment/technology related to exercise science required. At least two years of experience in teaching undergraduate courses in health, PE, and/or exercise science preferred. The position requires adept utilization of at least two electronic data systems commonly used in higher education, including and not limited to a data management system (e.g., Banner, Oracle’s PeopleSoft); a course management system (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas); and/or a student/program assessment system (e.g., LiveText, Campus Labs). SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY: Applicants must have skills in innovatively teaching undergraduate courses in health, physical education, and exercise science; advising and supporting students; communicating professionally and effectively verbally and in writing; being open and able to work collaboratively and effectively with internal and external stakeholders in education, health, business, and the community; and writing and managing program grants with a team. Participation in professional organizations related to exercise science and education is expected. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:1) TEACHING – provide high-quality instruction in a variety of health and/or physical education/teacher education courses and advise and mentor students as they matriculate through the program and prepare to enter the profession; 2) SCHOLARSHIP – development/continuation of a focused area of scholarship that includes refereed publications, professional presentations, external funding, and involvement in scholarly projects with faculty and students; 3) SERVICE – active service participation at the School, University, Profession, and community levels.
