Brief Position Summary:

This position supports basic food preparation tasks in the Board Plan Dining Halls.

Responsibilities:
Works with the supervisor and other cooks to prep and cook items for service. This includes cutting vegetables, meats & cheeses, making pizza’s, some grill & fryer work (eggs, chicken, burgers, fries).
Ensure that food is properly and safely prepared, cooked and served while maintaining a high standard for food taste, healthy presentation and eye appeal.
Observe proper food storage and handling procedures to ensure a safe and sanitary work environment.
Ensure the highest standards in sanitary kitchen procedures, food preparation and storage are maintained.
Cleans work areas, including counters, floors, dishes and related equipment and ensures they are in proper sanitary condition.

Education:
Be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent and experience working in grocery, restaurant, or related field; or an acceptable combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors
Have good communication skills; and the ability to follow instructions and procedures and participate in a team environment.
Ability to visually examine products for quality and freshness.
Knowledge of proper operation, maintenance & cleaning of food equipment a plus.
Proper handling of knives and other cutting equipment.
Must have knowledge of proper safe food handling practices.
Must be able to read and follow standard written recipes and execute basic culinary mathematics when building large recipes from smaller ones.
Effective time management skills

Physical Demands
Must be able to stand for up to 4 hours continuously, as well as frequent bending and overhead reaching with twisting motions.
Must be able to lift 10-20# numerous times during the day and up to 50# several times each day, must be able to push and pull up to 70# frequently.
Repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
