Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job:

Serve as the Director of Orchestral Studies; conduct the SHSU Symphony Orchestra, and String Chamber Orchestra; teach conducting at the undergraduate and graduate levels; teach other courses appropriate to the individual’s background/experience and School of Music needs; establish positive relationships with public school orchestra programs; assist in recruiting string majors; actively collaborate with artist string faculty.

Educational Requirements for the Position:

Master’s degree with significant professional experience required, doctorate preferred.

Experience Required for the Position:

Artist conductor with a strong commitment to education; experience teaching at both the secondary and university highly desirable.

Other Requirements for the Position:

All School of Music faculty members are expected to maintain a record of performances, service, and creative productivity that indicates continuing growth of national and international visibility. The applicant must work collegially with others and be committed to undergraduate education. The successful candidate will be a highly enthusiastic teacher and recruiter who will continue to develop an outstanding orchestral and strings program. In addition to departmental needs, the candidate will serve as a liaison to the Huntsville Youth Orchestra.
