Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job:

The Department of Mass Communication at Sam Houston State University invites applications for a full-time, Visiting Assistant Professor. The ideal candidate would have experience teaching Public Relations and/or Advertising. Online teaching experience is highly desirable and professional industry experience is also an asset. Teaching load will be four classes per semester. The successful candidate will be expected to teach both undergraduate level courses in Public Relations and Advertising at the main SHSU campus in Huntsville, Texas (located 70 miles north of Houston) and at The Woodlands Campus (40 miles south of Huntsville). Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate courses such as Principles of Public Relations, Campaigns and Promotions, and Writing for PR and Advertising, as well as Writing for Mass Media. Given Covid-protocols, the finalists will all be interviewed on Zoom.

Educational Requirements for the Position:

Applicants must have earned ABD in Public Relations required; PhD preferred in Mass Communication or related field.

Experience Required for the Position:

An outstanding candidate for the position will bring: several years of professional experience with PR and/or Advertising; strong letters of recommendation and should also demonstrate outstanding potential in research and/or creative activity.

Other Requirements for the Position:

Evidence of scholarly research/creative works.
