The College of Arts & Sciences, University of Virginia, is seeking a full-time, nine-month Assistant Professor General Faculty – Teaching Track for a non-tenure track, three-year position that is renewable subject to continued need and availability of funding. The successful candidate will be joining the College of Arts & Sciences community following the landmark approval of an innovative general education curriculum that brings faculty from across the College together to collaboratively design new courses in four thematic areas: Empirical and Scientific Engagement, Engaging Aesthetics, Engaging Difference, and Ethical Engagements. Reporting to the Co-Directors of the Engagements Program, the Assistant Professor General Faculty serves as a member of the general faculty with teaching and service obligations to the New College Curriculum (NCC). The position entails 60% teaching, and 40% administrative work on behalf of Postdoctoral Fellows in the College. The Assistant Professor General Faculty will teach 5 (2-credit) Engagements courses over the academic year, and will serve the following administrative functions: a. direct Engagements and Rising Scholars Postdoctoral Fellows development, with particular focus on fostering individual research programs and facilitating research dialogues within the broader College Community; b. help facilitate College Fellows (faculty and postdoctoral fellow) hiring and training; c. informally advise on Engagements and other components of the College Curriculum ; d. other duties as determined in conjunction with the Engagement Co-Directors.

Applicants must be on track to receive a PhD in a relevant field in the Liberal Arts and Sciences by June 2021 and must hold a PhD at the time of appointment. Candidates with interdisciplinary and curricular design experience are preferred.
