Description:

The School of Advertising and Public Relations in the University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s (UTK) College of Communication and Information (CCI), seeks a non-tenure-track Instructor of Practice or Assistant Professor of Practicein Public Relations (PBRL) depending on qualifications. This is a 9-month appointment to begin August 1, 2020 with a 3-year, renewable contract. The salary for the position is competitive and commensurate with experience. 

The successful candidate will teach four classes in both fall and spring semesters. School, college, university, and/or professional service are also expected at the discretion of the Director. We especially welcome candidates with demonstrated success in working with diverse populations and the ability to teach a number of the courses required for the PBRL degree: Principles of Public Relations, Graphic Design, Public Relations Writing, Advanced Public Relations Writing, Public Relations Cases, Public Relations Professional Seminar, Public Relations Campaigns, or other special topics courses in the major. 


Qualifications:

Ph.D in public relations or related area required for Assistant Professor of Practice / Master’s degree in public relations or a related area required for Instructor of Practice. Plus evidence of excellence in teaching or significant, relevant professional experience (at least 5 years) in the field of public relations.

Experience in – or the potential for – building an equitable and diverse environment in teaching, mentoring, life experiences, or service is also required. The ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students and staff from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds is essential. The candidate should also have the ability to build positive and mutually beneficial relationships with professionals working in a variety of communication and information sectors.
