The Academic Advisor, Global Locations, works directly withthe Office of Global Education to support Global Microcampus students(undergraduate and graduate) studying indual degree programs, as well as Global Direct students who are studyingonline. The Academic Advisor is acritical member of the Office of Global Education which provides service andsupport to nearly 1500 undergraduates and 50 graduate students. The Office ofGlobal Education staff strive to uphold the highest professional standards andare dedicated to working in the best interest of the students.

This position plays a vital role in maximizing undergraduateand graduate student retention and success. The Academic Advisor buildsformative relationships with students by interpreting information and providingclarification on procedures and academic requirements for a variety of dualdegree and single degree programs.

In this role, the incumbent will serve as a representativeof divisional leadership to diverse constituencies using various forms ofcommunication (face-to-face, written, visual, electronic) and willcollaboratively engage in activities and projects at all levels across thedivision. The role requires critical thinking and problem solving from a broad,high-level perspective down to project execution involving detailed,transactional processing and planning. A strong understanding of the characterand inner workings of the University of Arizona is essential along withexceptional written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge and familiarity with theorganization of international universities would also be beneficial in thisrole.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Understand the unique processes and offerings associated with UA Global Microcampus Dual Degrees and Global Direct and communicate relevant information to main campus advisors and students.
  • Coordinate with partner institutions and main campus advising teams to support dual degree students to move seamlessly through their dual degree programs.
  • Complete preliminary degree audits for dual degree students, especially in the beginning when the associated academic department needs to develop capacity.
  • Guide the dual degree team and dual degreestudents who attend Main Campus.

Assist and enroll said students when there are enrollment needs for non-major courses and potentially major courses, in collaboration with appropriate academic departments;

  • Onboard a caseload of students and proactively meet and communicate with those students regarding their Customized Degree Program, course registration, potential transitions to main campus, as well as determining appropriate education solutions to promote student success and retention.
  • Advise non-degree seeking students in AZ Academy Early Education programs on courses and provide outreach to recruit these students to the main campus.
  • Review and evaluate transcripts for transfer credit, in collaboration with the Transfer Credit and Articulation Office, and advise transfer students based on transfer credits;
  • Develop support documents, presentations, other materials as needed in support of the Office of Global Education, as it relates to general academic policies;
  • Representthe UA in a positive and engaging manner to ensure positive workingrelationships with all key stakeholders, including partner universities,students, potential applicants, program staff, government institutions andministries and the broader public;
  • Keepabreast of proposed curriculum changes, apprise others and advise onarticulation issues and activities; interpret the impact of curricular changesof other institutions’ requirements for transfer students;
  • Perform other duties as assigned and required.

  • Excellent project facilitation, organization, and planning skills with demonstrated flexibility and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks/projects while meeting deadlines;
  • Proven abilities to monitor and effectively report progress toward articulated goals;
  • Ability to learn and utilize new technologies, look at challenges from a unique perspective, and support the Office of Global
  • Education, anticipating the needs and emerging issues of the development and implementation of global location programs;
  • Ability to produce quality work under deadline pressure;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of student and organizational theories and trends in higher education;
  • High level of enthusiasm, commitment, anddedication to the betterment of the college student and university experience..

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be available to work outside of the traditional 9am – 5pm workday in order to meet with students in a variety of time zones;
  • Proven high level of cultural competency and experience working with international colleagues and students;
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in higher education, educationaladministration, student affairs, social science, or related field with 3 yearsof progressively responsible administrative experience in higher education
