The University of Rhode Island’s Department of Health Studies invites applications for a tenure-track, assistant professor, faculty position with an expertise in public health, health policy, global health, and/or interdisciplinary approaches to health. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate classes in Health Studies, such as introduction to public health, health services, health policy, health administration, global health, health disparities; developing and maintaining a sustainable, research program with the potential for extramural funding; advising undergraduate students; mentoring student research; and engaging in university service. The position will be an academic year appointment with an expected start date of August 2021. The Department is located in the College of Health Sciences, which is part of the University’s Academic Health Collaborative, along with the colleges of Pharmacy and Nursing, and the Institute for Integrated Health and Innovation. The Health Studies Department is recognized for excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. Our Department has approximately 450 undergraduates and 4 faculty members. The successful candidate is expected to teach a variety of undergraduate courses in Health Studies, mentor and advise undergraduate students and have an active research agenda.



1)A PhD, DrPH, or comparable terminal doctoral degree (or ABD with doctorate conferred by September 2021).

2)Demonstrated active research program in health-related field.

3)Demonstrated teaching experience and responsibilities at the college or university level as either an instructor, lecturer, or teaching assistant.

4)Demonstrated experience and commitment to working with and promoting diverse and underrepresented groups.


1) Completion of a postdoctoral fellowship.

2) Strong quantitative research skills.

3) Ability to attract external funding.

4) Ability to teach online.
