POSITION SUMMARY:

The Dean is the chief academic and executive officer for the Collins College of Business and reports to the Provost. The Dean is responsible for providing strategic vision, leadership, direction, and communication, advancing the school's academic programs, encouraging and supporting a vigorous research environment (both within and between colleges), managing and building the college’s fiscal resources, and representing the college effectively and collaboratively within and outside the university. The Dean must have strong leadership and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to integrate diverse interests and forge a common vision and a sharp focus on student success strategies.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES: Specific Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

• Leads the College in developing and implementing a sustainable and collaborative vision that supports the University’s strategic plan

• Promotes and strengthens a positive, diverse, and inclusive student focused culture, pursuing a cross-disciplinary approach that aligns with current and emerging student and employer demand

• Recruits, develops, supports, and retains excellent students, faculty, and staff, emphasizing outstanding research, excellent teaching, on-time graduation, career placement, and diversity

• Works with stakeholders to increase the sustainable financial strength of the College

• Assures efficient and effective stewardship of the College’s resources

• Becomes the Champion for the Collins College of Business, internally and externally increasing the strength, stature, and reputation of the College

• Directs and oversees college compliance with respect to specialized accreditation and university accreditation

• Leads the efforts on assessment and evaluation of faculty, department chairs, and associate deans

• Embraces the challenges of the changing higher education landscape as opportunities for positive change

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ph.D. (or DBA) in Business Administration and/or a Ph.D. in a business-related field

• Academic and/or scholarly qualifications to support appointment as a tenured professor

• An established scholarly research record

• A record of outstanding teaching

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Leadership experience within higher education at least equivalent to the Associate Dean level

• An active publishing record

• Professional achievements in business

• Fundraising experience

• Accreditation experience

• Leadership and change management experience within a multi-stakeholder and diverse academic organization

With a 125-year history and $1.1 billion endowment, The University of Tulsa is a private institution on a 216-acre residential campus, with approximately 4,400 undergraduate and graduate students and 350 faculty, including 67 undergraduate, 47 graduate, and 16 doctoral programs. The Collins College of Business is home to 710 undergraduate students and 205 graduate students pursuing a bachelor’s degree from one or more of eight majors, four graduate degrees, and eleven minors. Graduates of the undergraduate programs have a 96% job/graduate school placement rate. The Dean serves as leader of over 40 full-time faculty members across multiple programs. TU is located in midtown Tulsa, approximately two miles from downtown. Tulsa is a family-friendly, affordable place to live, with easy access to urban, suburban, and rural areas.
