The chair of the Department of Manufacturing and Engineering Technology provides leadership to the department in setting and achieving goals and objectives that fulfill the department’s mission and align with the strategic priorities of the College and University.

Job Responsibilities

Provides leadership to the department in setting and achieving realistic goals and objectives that fulfill the department’s mission and align with the strategic priorities of the College and University. Serves as an effective channel of communication between the Department and Dean of Engineering, and University administration. Manages the financial matters of the department and is responsible for the maintenance of the integrity of the academic programs. Manages department resources, administers faculty and staff evaluations, and is responsible for the general welfare of the department. Represents MET faculty in meetings with college and university administration, and departmental advisory board. Promotes professional development of faculty, staff and students. Maintains appropriate levels of teaching, graduate student advising, scholarly and research activities and participation in professional and public service activities. Maintains and builds strong relationships with industry and community stakeholders. Partners with development officers in fundraising and alumni engagement.

Minimum Qualifications

PhD from an accredited institution in Manufacturing and Engineering Technology, Engineering Technology, or a closely related field and achievements and experience sufficient to obtain tenure and the rank of full professor in the department pending TNTech Board approval. Teaching experience, scholarly or career accomplishments, and ability to create and build strong financial partnerships. Good interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with students, colleagues, staff and other on- and off-campus individuals. Ability to communicate effectively. Demonstrated good character, professional ethics, maturity of attitude, experience in teamwork and strong familiarity with relevant aspects of an Engineering Technology department.

Ability to identify opportunities, establish priorities, and lead innovative strategic efforts critical to the success of the College’s academic programs. Administrative and management experience. Non-academic professional or industrial experience. Leadership experience. Relevant accreditation activity experience, professional society and public service experience.
