About The American University in Cairo:

The American University in Cairo (AUC) has a rich legacy that dates back 100 years. Founded in 1919 as an English-language university based on high standards of conduct and scholarship, AUC remains a vibrant institution that contributes to the intellectual growth, discipline, and character of the future leaders of Egypt and the region. AUC emphasizes a liberal arts education, with all undergraduate students studying a common set of courses in the humanities and the natural and social sciences as part of the University's Core Curriculum. The AUC Libraries contain the largest English-language research collection in the region and are an active and integral part of the University's pursuit of excellence in all academic and scholarly programs. Located in one of the most interesting and important cities in the world - at the nexus of Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Europe, and the center of events of the Arab world - AUC is chartered and accredited in the United States and Egypt. AUC is an English-medium institution.

Job Description:

The Department of Petroleum and Energy Engineering (PENG) provides rigorous pedagogy to Petroleum Engineering undergraduate majors, as well as its Masters of Science (MS) program. The School also boasts graduate programs, Masters and Doctorates, in the Natural Sciences, Global Public Health and other Engineering disciplines, thereby providing opportunities for collaborative didactics and research. In that context, PENG welcomes applicants that are well-grounded in diverse areas of petroleum engineering and real-life field applications, with the flexibility to participate in the curriculum across various sub-disciplines and academic levels, from freshman to graduate.

For all positions, applicants should be committed to excellent classroom teaching and learning as well as demonstrating a research record commensurate with rank. Preference will be given to applicants who will contribute to the Department, School, University, and the outside communities with their academic and industrial expertise. English is required as it is the language of instruction at AUC. Research opportunities within the School of Sciences and Engineering and with colleagues across AUC are strongly encouraged.

Requirements:

Applicants at the Assistant or Associate Professor ranks should hold a PhD in Petroleum Engineering or a related field. Additional preferred qualifications include academic and industrial experience, whether R & D, field experience, and/or consulting. Candidates with 5 or more years of experience in petroleum engineering, in either an academic or corporate environment, with demonstrated capacity for high-quality scholarship are encouraged to apply. Service related to students in the major may include advising students and student organizations, developing curricula, and outreach to the local community. Proactive grantsmanship and scholarly endeavors, or potential (junior faculty) are required.

Additional Information:

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

Application Instructions:

All applicants must submit the following documents via the online system:

An updated CV; a letter of interest; a completed AUC Personnel Information Form (PIF); and the names of three references, with complete contact information, and annotation as to their relation to the candidate are required.

ONLY SHORT-LISTED CANDIDATES WILL BE CONTACTED.
