The Psychology Department at Southern Virginia University invites applications for a full-time, open rank position for a new master’s program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. This program will launch in August 2022. The aim of this program is to prepare graduates for licensure as LPCs. This faculty member will serve as the Program Director with primary responsibilities for (1) coordinating the program, (2) developing and revising courses, (2) responding to inquiries about the program and its institution, (3) providing input and making recommendations regarding the development of and expenditures from the program budget, (4) providing or delegating year-round program leadership, and (5) teaching courses within the program. In addition to Program Director responsibilities, teaching responsibilities will include a 3-course workload per semester, (this includes a 1-course release from normal 4-course/semester teaching in order to administer the academic program). There may be opportunities to teach undergraduate courses.

Successful candidates will be licensed or license-eligible as an LPC (or related credentials, e.g., NCC, ACS), and have a doctorate degree in counseling education, counseling psychology, clinical psychology or a related field (ABD with completion by July 2022 will be considered). Ideal applicants will have leadership experience and a proven track record of work in the counseling field (i.e., counseling experience, clinical supervision, teaching, and/or research in counseling). Experience working with diverse populations and active involvement with professional societies are preferred qualifications.
