Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is an on-call position. Provides food service, custodial, grounds maintenance, general labor or other main support on an on-call basis. Applications will be reviewed as needed.

Unit Position Summary

This position will assist in a wide variety of routine manual labor tasks related to general golf course maintenance, plant and tree care, preservation, and treatment and grounds maintenance operations; mow and water tees, greens, fairways, collars, surrounds and roughs; collect and dispose of debris; cut weeds, brush, and grass using hand and power equipment; perform landscape installations including plant material, signs, and edging; shovel, rake, grade, dig, spread, back-fill, haul materials using appropriate implements; seed and sod lawn areas; assist in the transplanting and moving of trees, shrubs, flowers and other plant material; recognize field-related issues such as localized dry spots, irrigation issues, mowing quality and other potential issues; operate small and large power equipment used in golf and landscape maintenance including mowers, aerators, top dressers, blowers, tractors, watering carts, and other turf-related equipment; operate, tractors, and various implements to assist with hoisting and loading operations with power-driven equipment; assist with installation and maintenance of irrigation systems, transport materials, tools, and equipment to work sites using golf course equipment; issue, receive, and store supplies and equipment; maintain and install erosion control devices; assist with placement and installation of tree protection fencing and with plant protection methods; maintain roads and walkways; participate in MSU's campus football tailgate clean up, assist in monitoring working areas to assure compliance with safety precautions and proper work methods; ability to send/receive emails.

Position location: Forest Akers Golf Courses.

This position is expected to work 12 to 29 hours per week from approximately April - November at $11.50 - $12.00 per hour. Monday through Friday 6:00am to 11:30am and WILL require occasional weekend & holiday work due to golf season and participation in the campus snow plan if assigned. Shift times are adjusted according to seasonal daylight.

Desired Qualifications

Have a basic knowledge in turf maintenance such as mowing, edging and watering or equivalent; be able to pass a university criminal background check.

Basic working knowledge of tools, methods, materials, and equipment used in golf course maintenance and landscaping; the ability to work in variable weather conditions to include severe weather; frequent lifting of 26 to 75 pounds with occasional lifting over 75 pounds; ability and willingness to work occasional weekends and holidays; experience and knowledge of Infrastructure, Planning and Facilities and/or facilities structure, processes, and procedures; ability to demonstrate T-shaped competencies.
