Kirkwood Community College Washington County Regional Center (Washington, IA) seeks skilled enthusiastic individuals to join our faculty to teach concurrent credit courses in the Transportation Career Academy for the 2021-2022 academic year. Two teaching positions are available; Automotive Technology adjunct and Automotive Collision & Repair adjunct. Successful candidates will have strong knowledge base in their discipline and teaching experience at the community college level is desirable, but not required. Primary duties will include teaching assigned class (es) and communicating with Regional Center/department staff, students and faculty.

Must be available to teach daytime classes.

Automotive Technology Academy will meet Monday – Friday 8 am – 10:30 am

Automotive Technology Academy courses include: Introduction to Automotive Technology, Maintenance & Light Repair, Industrial Math, Automotive Suspension & Steering, Automotive Brake Systems and Automotive Heating & Air Conditioning.

Automotive Collision & Repair Academy will meet Monday – Friday 12:05-2 pm

Automotive Collision & Repair Academy Courses include: Introduction to Metalworking & Refinishing I, Industrial Math, Auto Electricity and Introduction to Metalworking & Refinishing II.

  • Deliver practical hands-on instruction in discipline.
  • Effectively organize, prepare learning activities for assigned courses in accordance with established syllabi.

  • Request and maintain instructional equipment and supplies for classroom and laboratory use.
  • Communicate with department staff, students, and faculty on a regular basis.
  • Assist with student recruitment and orientation activities.

    Position involves occasional (10-33%) sitting and constant (67-100%) standing in a classroom/laboratory setting. Constant (67-100%) reaching, walking, lifting, dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and viewing various types of visual work, and perceiving attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature or texture. Frequent (34-66%) stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, carrying, and visualizing three-dimensions from a two-dimensional medium. Exerting up to 50-100 pounds occasionally.


    Special training and at least 6,000 hours of recent and relevant work experience in the occupational area or related occupational area in which the instructor teaches classes if the instructor possesses less than a baccalaureate degree. OR

  • Baccalaureate or graduate degree in the area or related area of study or occupational area in which the instructor is teaching classes.
  • Successful teaching experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills required.

  • Applicant must be G1 (Maintenance and Light Repair), A4 (Suspension and Steering), A5 (Brakes) and A7 (Heating and Air Conditioning) ASE Certified and work towards becoming ASE Master Certified. Applicant must obtain factory credentials in Chrysler, Honda and Subaru during first year of teaching.
  • Certification in 609 Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling, or able to obtain this certification.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license

  • Must be I-CAR Pro Level I Non-Structural and Pro Level 1 Refinish Technician certified, or able to obtain certification prior to teaching assignment.
  • Snap-on NC3, 525 Multimiter Certification, or able to obtain.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.
