This commitment to environmental justice extends to the academic programs, and the English department has been a leader in Environmental Humanities. Supported by a major grant from the Mellon Foundation the College is developing a campus-wide transdisciplinary initiative in EH. Please see our website at

Many Colby students double major in Environmental Studies and English, and English department courses in Environmental Humanities attract students from across the College. We have, in addition, a very strong creative writing program which contributes to a lively intellectual climate.We support a wide array of lectures, faculty work-in-progress seminars, and readings, and we foster both student and faculty research through grants and off-campus opportunities.
Colby is a highly selective liberal arts college recognized for excellence in undergraduate education and close student-faculty interaction. We are especially interested in candidates who, through their scholarship, teaching and service will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the campus community. For this position we seek a teacher-scholar with demonstrated teaching excellence and strong publications. PhD must be in hand no later than August 2021.
