The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), School of Medicine - General Internal Medicine is currently recruiting for a Clinical Business Operations Director.  The Clinical Business Operations Director establishes goals and objectives, functions with autonomy. Manages the accountability and stewardship of human, financial, and often physical resources in compliance with departmental and campus wide goals and objectives. Ensures subordinate supervisors and professionals adhere to defined internal controls.   • Direct management and support staff, and provide leadership to achieve goals and vision of the multiple divisions and the day-to-day operations. Responsible for hiring and retaining staff, career coaching, professional development and accountable for the performance of employees.  
  • Working directly with senior leadership, develops and directs the long- and short-term planning to meet business objectives. Guide, challenge, and motivate multiple divisions to achieve long-term function goals contributing to the University. Drive strategic planning for multiple divisions, department, or school to achieve long-term University goals. Resolve problems in matters of significance requiring identification and analysis of complex variables pertaining to multiple divisions or to the University.
  • Oversee business/administrative operations for the divisions. Design, maintain, and implement department policies and/or services by establishing standards and procedures; measuring results against standards; making necessary adjustments. Implement campus policies, procedures and programs, and accountable for compliance.  Authority to deviate from established policies and procedures without prior approval.
  • Strategic clinical management oversight of multiple divisions. Spearheads organizational clinical growth of divisions, ensuring best practice through creating and improving systems/strategy for client services. Oversees clinical productivity, income, contracts, program progress; researches and implements opportunities for clinical expansion; and develops reports to monitor faculty productivity and related value unit (WRVU) activity. Maintains and promotes awareness of advances in medicine, computerized diagnostic and treatment equipment, data processing technology, government regulations, health insurance changes, and financing options. Direct oversight of clinician licensure, credentials, and develops training to ensure faculty are in compliance with campus, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Oversee all financial objectives and achievements for the divisions.  Collaborate with senior leadership in defining long-term goals in support of the University's strategic plans and core values.  Develop guidelines, processes, and procedures for multiple units.  Prepare annual unit budgets; negotiates, coordinates and administers contracts; approves expenditures; analyzes variances; initiates and enforces corrective actions.  Recommend and commit the business unit in matters of financial impact.
  • Provide direction to divisions by assuring that proposals and awards are in compliance with federal, state, agency and institutional policies.  Direct and manages the authorization and transmittal of all proposals and negotiates the most complex agreements.  Develop, enhance, and provide guidance to all contract and grant functions for business unit and staff members.  Collaborate with upper level management within unit and throughout campus in order to ensure the deliverance of high quality service.
  • Oversee and manage of academic and research physical facilities and operations.  Provide leadership and strategic direction for all department or School facilities, space, environmental health and safety, and public safety matters.
  • Create a cohesive work team that works collaboratively to achieve divisional goals. Oversee the recruitment, performance, and training of team members and continually reviews strengths and weaknesses of staff to maintain a well-trained, highly involved, and motivated team.  Handle complaints, resolve conflicts, and active in the grievance process.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, healthcare administration, public administration, finance, marketing, accounting, human resources, or other related field.
Preferred Education: Master’s in Business Administration preferred.
Experience: Seven (7) years of related experience in administrative and financial operations, with at least one (1) year experience in managed care, healthcare management, medical practice or a related clinical environment.  Prior experience in human resources, payroll, finance, facility, or research administration is preferred.
Supervisory Experience: Three (3) years of direct supervisory or management experience.
Certification Preferred: Certified Manager (CM) credential designated by the Institute of Certified Professional Managers (ICPM) preferred.
Other: Annual financial disclosure required by Maryland State Law. Salary Range: Pay grade H - Minimum $85,627, Midpoint $122,324, Maximum $159,021
