The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has an opening for a Human Resource Associate in the School of Literatures, Cultures and Linguistics. The Human Resource Associate provides direct human resources support to thirteen units within the School of Literatures, Cultures & Linguistics (SLCL) and works as a member of the SLCL human resource office to support SLCL HR initiatives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Appointments

  • Coordinate the search and hire process for assigned departments including but not limited to: pre-search approval documentation, HireTouch routing and approvals, search committee coordination, job postings, answering applicant questions, on-site interview coordination, assist with new student orientations and proposed hire approval paperwork
  • Provide departments with appropriate offer letter template, review draft offer letter and proposed salary recommendation, work within guidelines established by the appropriate collective bargaining agreement (as appropriate), Campus and State policies and rules and Campus and College procedures
  • Process new hires, changes to employee records, labor transfers, service-in-excess/lump sums, pay rate changes, additional appointments (including summer exemption forms) and/or re-appointments in the Human Resources Front End (HRFE), enter job transfers and separations in HRFE, enter C-FOAPALs, labor distributions, and transfers in HRFE, enters adjustments in PARIS and ANA
  • Appointment processing for students, faculty, specialized faculty, staff, and academic hourly, including entry into Human Resources Front End (HRFE) and Tracker I-9, determine eligibility of ACA hourly individuals
  • Monitor appointment for Notice of non-reappointment needs
  • Oversee the Specialized Faculty reappointment process
  • Provide guidance/recommendations on various appointment requests
  • Process paid and unpaid leaves, payments, service in excess, separations, processing rehiring retirees
  • Coordinate and monitor faculty effort commitments with HR and in ARS during academic year Process paid and unpaid leaves, lump-sum payments, service in excess, separations, processing rehiring retirees

Employee Record Management

  • Oversee and maintain personnel records, including management of sensitive and confidential material

Labor & Employee Relations

  • Provide guidance to units on applicable collective bargaining agreement language, policies and rules and Provost Communications in consultation with the Assistant Director of Human Resources
  • Provide guidance for leaves of absence and Family and Medical Leave Act requests

Other duties as assigned to further the mission of the school

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Administration, Management, Organizational Administration, Public Administration, Labor Relations, Business Administration or a field closely related to the position
  • Two years of work experience performing professional-level human resources duties

Preferred:

  • Minimum of two years of progressive work experience that demonstrates strong ability to research, interpret and make recommendations based on HR policy
  • Experience working with University and Campus policies related to Human Resources including but not limited to those listed in the Campus Administrative Manual, Provost’s Communications, and Policies and Rules
  • Experience working in University systems: BANNER, HRFE, HireTouch, I-9 Tracker, ANA, PARIS and Webi
  • Experience working in a union environment and interpreting contract language. Proven track record of customer service to diverse clients
  • Experience in documentation, training, search and hire practices, visa processing, and/or appointments processing

This is a full-time Civil Service professional-class position appointed on a 12 month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Research

Undergraduate Education

The Arts
