Job Summary:

An employee in this classification performs work of moderate difficulty by being responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of athletic sports information/media for the athletic department and for the Athletes Committed to Education (ACE) Program, which consists of monitoring student-athletes for study hall and assisting in referrals to tutors. Work is distinguished by the ability to collaborate with and provide support to the designated student-athlete academic advisor as a secondary case manager for student-athletes. General supervision is received by the assigned manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as sports management, journalism, mass communications, broadcast communications, education or related field or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  2. Considerable knowledge of sports
  3. Good knowledge of sports information/athletics communications/athletics public relations
  4. Good knowledge of college student success strategies
  5. Considerable skill in writing sports articles, statistical compilation, data collection and maintaining historical records.
  6. Considerable skills used to monitor student-athletes academically, lead study hall program, and refer student-athletes to academic advisor, tutoring, and other support services.
  7. Considerable skills used to positively interact with student-athletes.
  8. Considerable skills in verbal and written communication.
  9. Considerable skill in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite, including but not limited to Word, Excel, Access and Publisher
  10. Considerable skill in organizing work to meet established deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
  11. Working skill in interpersonal interaction to be applied to a variety of individuals with differing education, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
  12. Working skill in operating a personal computer, applicable software and peripheral equipment as well as learning and adapting to new and updated programs and technology.
  13. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  14. Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends when required by the department’s needs.

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Considerable skill in the use Adobe Creative Suite and athletic
  2. Considerable skill as a student-athlete, coach or in academic support services is preferred.

Essential Duties:

  1. Oversee maintenance of the athletic website and social media accounts
  2. Maintain statistical information through sports content management system
  3. Write/edit stories about ECC teams and athletes to promote their achievements.
  4. Attend assigned games/matches and highlight stories
  5. Coordinate the Athletes Committed to Education (ACE) Program and supervise the student-athlete academic study hall program.
  6. Collaborate with student-athletes (SA) academic advisor on student progress and academic and life skill instruction.
  7. Support the Student Success (early alert) Program by serving as the secondary case manager to the assigned student-athlete academic advisor.
  8. Maintains required training, licensure and/or certifications
  9. Maintains confidentiality of privileged information and adheres to applicable privacy laws
  10. Demonstrates sensitivity, understanding and respect of diverse populations within the workplace.
  11. Maintains an understanding of the work of colleagues to effectively provide backup and/or support for co-workers during times when the division is short-staffed or experiencing an increased volume of work.
  12. Adheres to department guidelines for attendance and punctuality

  1. Perform other job-related duties as assigned which pertain to the job description.
  2. Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes days/evenings/weekends as needed by the department.

Satelitte Campuses: ECC holds classes throughout the northwest suburbs at off-campus locations scattered across the district.
