Job Description PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Dean, Academic Affairs will be responsible for providing leadership and support to the Office of Instruction as part of the educational environment of the Lone Star College System and community. This position will provide leadership and direction for academic affairs, organizational development, strategic planning, institutional effectiveness, program assessment, educational initiatives, grant management, and high school partnerships. The Dean will serve as the principal academic and budgetary officer for his or her respective division within Lone Star College. This position is empowered with the authority necessary to provide positive leadership regarding academic personnel, curricular, and budgetary decisions that further the academic, programmatic, and scholarly mission of the institution in its service to the community. The Dean of Academic Affairs will also responsible for campus-wide academic support services and partnership programs that service both students, faculty and staff.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Lead academic support areas through planning, development, implementation, and evaluation. Build processes in the division and collaborate with other LSC divisions, VPIs, and Deans to ensure dual credit schedules are developed to meet student needs, class loads are efficiently distributed, and registration to final grade delivery is seamless.Evaluate data and major trends with potential impact on the growth and development of instructional programs. Identify unmet institutional needs/opportunities and submit recommendations for meeting those needs. Collaborate with instructional deans to evaluate and project trends in academics, business, and industry.Ensure that the division offers programs that allow for student success. This includes developing benchmarks through data-informed decisions, developing accountability, and ensuring SACS, GIPWE, and Coordinating Board requirements are met for dual credit and college prep. If necessary, oversee the discontinuation of programs that do not meet student needs or are unsustainable.Oversee strategic planning and institutional effectiveness processes. Collect, assist, and assess action plans. Mentor and train faculty and staff on assessing Student Learning Outcomes Assessment (SLOs) and Annual Cycle of Effectiveness (ACE). Develop and implement staff professional growth plans that leverage employee talent to achieve LSC goals. Oversee the recruitment, hiring, evaluation, and retention of qualified dual credit faculty and academic support staff. Coordinate and maintain long-range academic plans for the division with appropriate Lone Star College (LSC) leadership, including but not limited to rollout, budget, staff development, succession planning, and community awareness.Assess a variety of student engagement and learning initiatives and programs such as Service Learning, Honors, International Education, etc. Create, analyze, and utilize a variety of detailed reports such as Workforce Annual Report Cards and ISD College Reports. Use data-driven information in decision-making and provide informed updates to Administration. Regularly analyze and provide evaluation of instructional and academic support areas to foster a culture of continuous improvement and ensure curriculum, instructional integrity, and student success.Guide on-campus professional development offerings for the College to help divisions keep up-to-date on the latest trends in instructional methods, technology, effective pedagogies for learning, student success, customer services, and strategic planning. Support faculty and staff in building these trends into the long-range plan for their division.Develop curriculum, support a variety of methods of instruction, including computer-assisted instruction and distance learning, and ensure course and program articulations are maintained. Serve as a resource to curriculum and advisory teams/committees, and coordinate and support student success and faculty innovation. Facilitate the system-wide ESOL Curriculum Team and the College Planning and Effectiveness Committee. Collaborate with LSC Resource Development and Administration to develop potential grant projects. Plan and direct the implementation of the five-year, Title V Hispanic-Serving Institution grant from the US Department of Education by ensuring that goals and objectives are accomplished within time frame and funding parameters. Organize, promote and participate in steering committee meetings and special activities to provide input into policy, program planning, curriculum design, evaluation, staff development, and other areas. Ensure that all appropriate parties participate in these meetings and activities. Actively participate in Lone Star College system-wide councils to include but not limited to Workforce Council, Council for International Studies, Instructional Deans Council, Grant Advisory Council, and Dual Credit Council. Cultivate instructional support for high school partnerships including dual credit, Early College High Schools, P-16 Initiatives, college readiness and awareness, and home school students. Determine gaps, monitor SACS compliance, and develop & implement programs in response to community needs. Collaborate with deans and department chairs to resolve implementation issues at the high schools.Develop budget recommendations and manage budget allocations for effective, efficient and productive educational programs and support services.Develop and cultivate relationships with community stakeholders including leaders in education, business, faith, nonprofit, philanthropic, and civic sectors to move the North Harris County Education Alliance P-16 Council work forward and achieve its vision, mission, and goals. Serve on the Funder's Team for the Alliance.Collaborate with Texas Education Agency, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, school districts, parent groups, community groups, social services, businesses, colleges, and universities to develop, interpret, and implement all applicable policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to college readiness services.Oversee the Study Abroad program. Work with faculty and staff to conduct trips in the U.S. and abroad as part of the course curriculum. Oversight includes fiscal management of trip and policies/procedures associated with development, approval, implementation, and assessment.Oversee Evening and Weekend College (EWC), which provides supervision, support, and administrative services during evening and weekend classes to assist faculty in guiding students toward their academic goals. EWC collaborates with instructional chairs to develop and coordinate evening and weekend courses.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree and at least 7 years of related work experience with at least 3 in a Manager or Director level position

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Master's degree

Salary

Hiring salary range is $85,960-$98,854.

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
