Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Client Technologies Tech III will be responsible for working directly with faculty, staff and students to define PC Desktop and/or AV requirements and develop standard to ensure reasonable consistency across all supported platforms and among departments. Work with end users to identify and deliver required PC services and provide training and support to end users on computer operation and other issues. The Client Technologies Tech III will communicate with and solicit input from user communities and other teams to identify next steps. Coach/train other team members in best practices, current standards, and usage of day to day systems. This position is a member of the 24/7/365 global department.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    Support and maintain PC, peripherals and in-house audio-visual equipment as required; Operate, maintain, distribute, install, configure, repair, and upgrade PCs, printers, various audio-visual equipment, and media products while ensuring their optimal performanceLead IT projects and provide high level technical service to the campusAct as the “go-to person” in the PC Desktop, Mac, and/or AV area as requiredPerform on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolutions of complex hardware and software issues for end usersAssist customers through consultation, diagnosis, and implementation of solutions that are reasonably within the resources available and will leverage existing technologies at the CollegeDevelop standard operating procedures and instructional videosWork with OTS team members to improve user experienceDeploy lab environment computers and maintain software development and hardware changes to fit class needsMonitor the ticket queue to ensure that service level agreements are being met and customers are being taken care of in a timely mannerDocument technical specifications, standards, procedures, and best practices for other OTS personal and non-technical staff/customersResponsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Highly detailed understanding of Windows and Mac operating systems and/or AV systems as required
  • Background of strong customer service orientation
  • Highly skilled at explaining technical subjects to non- technical as well as technical customers
  • Has expertise in principles and concepts underlying an area of IT
  • Current and proficient in any new concepts or practices in own IT discipline, and applies that knowledge to the current work
  • Has in-depth understanding of the different aspects of the College’s purpose and operations (academic; research; administrative)
  • Has basic knowledge of project management
  • Ability to represent and promote the team's mission and goals across teams, processes, and departments, as needed; Knows when support from outside the team is needed to help move forward and acts accordingly
  • Ability to write and present reports and/or proposals that persuade or communicate important messages
  • Understands and interprets other viewpoints and assimilates them, as appropriate, into new or revised work processes and products
  • Ability to work to resolve conflicts (e.g., technical disagreements or design reviews) in own work unit
  • Ability to makes decisions and recommendations on issues affecting projects and a client base
  • Demonstrated ability to work with management, which helps create standards for a team and assists in establishing methods of accountability for the completion of assignments and tasks
  • Demonstrates flexibility and discretion in negotiations with customers and/or colleagues
  • Ability to seek opportunities and set some goals for own development
  • Ability to follow team and OTS procedures, but regularly evaluates those procedures
  • Ability to anticipate consequences of actions and prepares for potential problems or opportunities that are not obvious (e.g., are not part of the standard practice in the field)

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility and dexterity.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in Microsoft Windows and Mac environments, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed both indoors in a climate-controlled office environment and outside in non-climate controlled areas

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED and at least 4 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working with clients, including effective communication skills
  • One additional year of work experience may be substituted for each required certification
  • CompTIA A+ Certification or industry recognized equivalent
  • Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) and/or Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree
  • 5 years of related work experience
  • Practical experience and specialized training; college degree, technical credentials or equivalent experience in one or more areas of IT (e.g., PC, Mac, etc.)
  • Advanced experience in hardware troubleshooting and repair
  • ITIL Foundations or industry recognized equivalent

Salary

Hiring salary range is $46,081 to $52,993.

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
