The Associate Director of Admissions is responsible for supporting the Office of Admissions in identifying, attracting and enrolling an academically talented and diverse student body. An Associate Director is expected to bring an additional level of experience and leadership to the department through strategic recruitment project management, evaluation of applicants, establishing and maintaining partnerships with schools, CBO’s and counselors, and representing Middlebury at national and international meetings that support inclusive recruitment goals.

Essential Functions:

The Associate Director of Admissions manages several projects and programs key to the success of the Office’s mission:

Yield: Oversee the development and execution of the Office of Admissions yield strategy. This includes:
•Developing strategic goals informed by data.
•Translating the goals into an approach around communication and outreach, direct engagement, and programming.
•Coordinating the collaborative execution of the strategy.

Strategic Enrollment Management: Support the Dean’s enrollment management decision-making through reporting, assessment, and data analytics. This includes:
•At the direction of the Dean, reviewing and assessing the office’s programs, policies, and strategies.
•Bringing an analytical and research lens to internal and external data to better understand the landscape of higher education as well as future trends that may influence enrollment management at Middlebury.
•Developing intuitive and interactive tools and reports to support decision-making across the office.
•Communicating effectively around opportunities for development and growth.

Partnerships: Manage the office’s partnerships with local, regional, and national organizations that can support the recruitment of a diverse and talented student body. This includes:
•Researching and reporting on opportunities for new strategic partnerships.
•Coordinating all aspects of establishing new partnerships.
•Assessing and sustaining existing partnerships.

International: Serve as a key member of the international recruitment team and support the Associate Director for International Admission in the development of policy, programming, travel strategy. Participate in international travel, application evaluation, and yield.

Senior Admissions Fellows: Manage the recruitment, training, and supervision of the Senior Admissions Fellows. This includes:
•Ensuring the Fellows sessions are high quality and professional.
•Facilitating the Fellows support of other Admissions programs.
•Ensuring the program serves as an opportunity for professional development and is a positive experience for the students hired.
•Serving as a member of the Visit team.

General Responsibilities:

•Represent the College at high school visits, college fairs, special events and other recruiting activities.
•Evaluate admissions applications.
•Represent the College to prospective students, high school counselors, parents, alumni and other groups.
•Manage domestic and international recruitment territories.
•Carry out other duties as assigned by the Dean or Director.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree required
• Master’s degree in a related field is strongly preferred

• Evening and weekend work is routine during busier seasons.
• Strong commitment to liberal arts education

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Exemplary customer service and relationship-building skills
• Strong cross-cultural, interpersonal, and writing skills are necessary, including public speaking skills and the ability to present the College in a positive way to diverse populations.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Advanced understanding of complexities of an integrated student information system.
• Ability to work collegially and collaboratively
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Evening and weekend work is routine during busier seasons.
• Strong commitment to liberal arts education
• Fluency in multiple languages for international travel requirements
• Valid driver’s license required.

Experience:

Three to five or more years experience in increasingly responsible positions in admissions and/or education.

Physical Demands:

• Sitting and operating computer for extended periods of time, particularly during application reading and committee season.
• Ability to work in a wide variety of conditions and environments depending on the time of year: the office; schools, hotels, and homes while on the road; and occasionally from home during reading season
• Light physical activity is often required: moving tables and chairs, carrying materials on the road, lifting small boxes.
• Extensive travel and the ability to do so during inclement weather is essential.
