A.T. Still University's (ATSU) Department of Students Affairs is seeking applications for a vibrant and innovative leader to serve as Director of Student Life. This position plays an integral role in the overall success of our students. The Director of Student Life is responsible for the planning and managing of Student Life responsibilities as related to personnel, operations, events, and student activities. The Director of Student Life shares the vision and mission of the department and the university is a student advocate and supports a multicultural and diverse campus environment.
Major Job Duties:
- Communicates effectively with the Associate Vice President-Student Affairs on all department activities and issues.
- Implement and manage the Modo Labs communication app as well as the point person for the app.
- Provides leadership to the Student Life staff on both the Arizona and Missouri campuses.
- Works collaboratively with all student affairs departments.
- Oversees pre-orientation (including the online Canvas Course), new student orientations, graduations, and Founder’s Day (Arizona and California).
- Coordinates communications with students.
- Oversees/chairs all special events sponsored by Student Life/ Affairs.
- Manages confidential student files and maintains student complaint forms/ logs as required by the Department of Education.
- Oversees the Student Life budget.
- Advises, coordinates and provides oversight to student organizations/ leadership trainings and serves as an advocate for all student organizations.
- University liaison with the student organization management platform Engage.
- Provides support and training for the faculty and staff advisors of RSOs.
- Works collaboratively with Communications & Marketing to ensure accuracy of the information on the Student Life website, printed materials, and social media to communicate effectively with students.
- Serves as primary Student Affairs administrator in the absence of the Associate Vice President-Student Affairs.
- Conducts research and contributes to institutional policy development in relevant areas.
- Serves on relevant institutional committees.
- Oversees the management/ revisions of the University Student Handbook.
- Support/attend student functions as needed.
- Other duties may be assigned by the Vice President and/or Associate Vice President-Student Affairs.
Responsibilities include:
- Oversees University Student Handbook
- Act as a liaison to other university departments.
- Meets weekly with AVP-SA, attends SA Leadership Team meetings and retreats.
- Provides oversight to student organizations.
- Represents department on university committees.
- Makes budget recommendations and tracks expenditures.
- Provides oversight of personnel.
- Coordinates department surveys and data.
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications, skills, and accomplishments:
- Must have a Master’s degree
- At least three years of full time experience; preferably in a higher education setting
- Excellent leadership skills
- A clear understanding of the challenges of professional/graduate students
- An appreciation of the policy context relating to various student support requirements
- Evidence of successful development and implementation of new initiatives in higher education or other relevant environments
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage resources effectively and identify, where appropriate, resourcing opportunities
- Leadership, team building and managerial skills
- Ability to effectively and collaboratively adapt in a fast paced environment
