Research Associate, Cancer Prevention & Control Program - Georgetown University Medical Center

Georgetown University Medical Center's Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center (LCCC) seeks to improve the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cancer through innovative basic and clinical research, patient care, community education and outreach, and the training of cancer specialists for the future. Founded in 1970, LCCC is one of only 41 institutions in the nation designated by the NCI as a comprehensive cancer center, and it is the only comprehensive cancer center in the Washington, DC area.

The Research Associate opportunity involves project direction of Lombardi's Comparative Effectiveness and Modeling Research projects in the Cancer Prevention and Control Program's modeling core, requiring management of 6 modeling teams across the country and internationally to ensure that research goals are met, including timelines maintenance, work tasks, meetings, and study communications.

Reporting to the Director of Comparative Effectiveness of Modeling Research, the Research Associate has responsibilities that include but are not limited to:

Day to Day Project Direction
  • Supervises staff in all modeling and coordination activities, including scheduling and coordinating all monthly conference calls, agendas and minutes.
  • Maintains timelines for all projects tracking materials and documentation of sources, transmitting data to collaborators and uploading all documentation to secure project web site to store data.


Scientific Project Direction of Ongoing Studies
  • Manages all regulatory requirements for all ongoing projects, as well as preparation of progress reports for funding agencies
  • Develops and maintains study-related materials such as models, surveys, and data bases.


Scientific Publications
  • Participates in writing manuscripts, presentations, progress and other reports, and documents as assigned.
  • Presents research at conferences.
  • Participates in new grant preparation.


Data Analysis and Model Development
  • Conducts data analysis (under the supervision of the PI) using statistical software for scientific publications.
  • Performs model development using STATA.


Qualifications
  • Master's degree - MPH, MS, or MHS - in statistics, biostatistics, applied mathematics, public health, health service/policy research - doctoral students are encouraged to apply
  • 1 to 2 years of years of experience - preference for statistics, mathematics, epidemiology or decision analysis - mathematical modeling is a plus
  • Ability to interact with large teams of collaborators
  • Computer literate in common applications as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience performing literature reviews
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detailed orientation and organization


Preferred requirements
  • Experience with conducting data analysis in R, SPSS, SAS or STATA
  • Working with health data and large national datasets
