Senior Professional Research Assistant

Nature of WorkThe Schwartz/Yang Lab seeks an energetic and motivated individual to join our research group. We are seeking a full-time Senior Professional Research Assistant to develop cell culture assays for an industry collaboration with Eleven P15 in the Schwartz/Yang Lab in the Pulmonary Division, of the Department of Medicine on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO. The research in the Schwartz/Yang Lab focuses on understanding how a combination of genetic factors and environmental exposures contribute to an individual's disposition to develop lung diseases, mainly pulmonary fibrosis. State-of-the-art genetic and genomic approaches, including whole genome sequencing (WGS), transcriptome, epigenome, and proteome studies have identified key pathways in the development of fibrosis. This position will lead the development and utilization of primary cell culture assays that recapitulate disease biology and can support drug discovery. Required skills for this position include experience with cell culture, including primary and immortalized cells, as well as viral transduction systems. Experience with gene editing is ideal. Applicants should also have experience with molecular assays (ELISA, PCR, Immunohistochemistry). The position is expected to record data and perform analyses of collected data. Areas of ResponsibilityThe duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:- Develop in vitro phenotypes with primary cell cultures replicating features of disease biology
- Develop methods for editing risk alleles (e.g. using CRISPR/Cas9) in primary cell cultures to link genomic features to disease biology
- Collaborate with Eleven P15 to utilize these primary cell cultures for modulating disease-associated pathways.
- Maintain records and analyze data (due to the nature of this collaboration, there may be limited opportunity to publish.)
- Participate in meetings and conference calls as needed with the research team and collaborators
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- A strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Powerpoint is required
- Data entry of research-related data
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal skills
- Demonstrate an independent work initiative, sound judgment, strong decision-making skills, diplomacy, tact and a professional demeanor
- Ability to prioritize tasks
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Work independently and on a team
- Master’s degree in biological sciences
- 5 years experience with cell culture
- Experience with viral transduction
- Experience with gene editing
- Experience with molecular biology techniques (ELISA, PCR, Immunohistochemistry)
- Experience with microscopy
- Knowledge of theories and principles of human genetics
