Job Description:

The Interdisciplinary Center for Biotechnology Research (ICBR) Core Research Facility Specialist II will be responsible for processing submitted customer samples for RNASeq library construction. This includes sample accessioning, nucleic acid concentration determination, and enzymatic conversion of RNA to cDNA for NGS sequencing on the Illumina platform. Additional duties include nucleic acid extraction and quality assessment, processing samples on the 10X Genomics Chromium instrument for single cell library prep for RNAseq and iSeq, and preparing RNASeq libraries from VISIUM spatial transcript profiling platform. operation of the 10X Genomics Chromium instrument for preparation of single cell RNASeq libraries, and preparation of 16S metagenomic libraries for Illumina DNA Sequencing. Other responsibilities include laboratory supply inventory management, data delivery, and preparing customer invoices using the CrossLab system. This position requires hands on laboratory experience in advanced molecular biology methods including PCR. Must be able to follow detailed Standard Operating Procedures and be able to work effectively within a team environment and interact professionally with customers.

Prepare high quality RNASeq libraries and 16s metagenomics libraries for Illumina DNA Sequencing; operation of liquid handling robot for NGS library preparation, and qPCR plate set up.

Process samples on the 10X Genomics Chromium instrument for single cell library prep for RNAseq and iSeq; Prepare RNASeq libraries from VISIUM spatial transcript profiling platform.

Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis customer nucleic acid samples using Nanodrop, Qubit and Bioanalyzer/TapeStation platforms

Contribute to development of new methods and launch of new services

Deliver data to customers; prepare customer invoices using CrossLab system

Serve as GE Core Safety Officer attending ICBR-wide safety team meetings, updating lab safety documents, and ensuring lab and staff member compliance.

Monitor and maintain laboratory supply inventory; perform additional duties as required.

Expected Salary:

$51,000 - $56,000, commensurate with education and experience

Minimum Requirements:

MS required or 7 years science related, core specific advanced training and work experience and/or post-graduate coursework. Requires at least 3 years in core facility specific applications and at least 2 years of that in research-based technology. Work experience in multi-user core facility preferred.
Core or technology specific licensure and/or certifications where applicable. Additionally yearly certificate and compliance training if required.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Minimum 5 year hands on experience in NGS or RNASeq library preparation preferably in academic core setting.
- Experience working with molecular biology laboratory equipment including Nanodrop, Qubit, Agilent Tape Station, and thermocyclers.
- Ability to work independently to master new laboratory procedures
- Detail oriented and ability to maintain accurate lab records and to handle data efficiently
- Ability to work with and train others
- Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate projects
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with employees and customers
- Ability to willingly accept constructive criticism
- Self-motivated, positive individual
