The University of Virginia, Department of Medicine, Division of Nephrology, is seeking a Lab Technician to work in the laboratory of Sanja Arandjelovic, PhD. Dr. Arandjelovic’s lab research focus is on cell clearance in inflammatory disease, using in vitro and in vivo model systems.
The position requires substantial work in cell culture approaches. Specific experience with flow cytometry, molecular biology techniques and animal model systems is an advantage.
Position Responsibilities include:
- Helping Principal Investigator (PI) coordinate research projects, performing experimental procedures, collecting information and data, and preparing tissues and specimens for procedures.
- Oversee day-to-day lab operation, including equipment maintenance, buffer preparation and reagent ordering.
- Work independently on collection of data and analyze research results.
- Confer with PIs in developing plans for research projects and discuss results and preparation of scientific manuscripts for publication.
- In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
The lab functions as a team effort and only those who are willing to actively engage with a group of scientists as a productive team player will function well in this position. Intellectual engagement is required as well; those seeking to know, grow, understand and learn will be best suited to this position. This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance.
Education: Bachelor’s degree
Experience: At least 1 year of lab experience which may include student experience.
